In the Winter 2024 Volume of the International Dyslexia Association’s Perspectives on Language and Literacy, Lyon & Goldberg write: “Students need an average of at least four guesses to correctly decipher upcoming words in a reading passage”. They continue on: “Using guessing strategies to read unknown words is an unreliable tactic and leaves much to chance.”

That’s why when we illustrate the books in our , we’re deliberate about making sure there are not visual cues students would use to guess. We make expressive, engaging images that don’t give away the story.

In her independent evaluation, students who used MindPlay Reading demonstrated remarkable growth—achieving nearly three times the national average reading gains on the NWEA MAP assessment. Even more exciting, over 60% of students surpassed their projected growth targets.
