PCOS and Endometriosis are both chronic disorders that affect women of reproductive age. Although they share some overlapping symptoms (such as irregular periods, heavy bleeding, and difficulty getting pregnant) these two conditions affect the reproductive system differently.

PCOS is a metabolic disorder that affects a female’s hormone levels. When the ovaries and adrenal glands produce too much androgen, or “male hormones,” it can interfere with ovulation and cause symptoms such as ovarian cysts, excess body and facial hair, severe acne, male-pattern baldness and extreme weight gain. Insulin resistance or diabetes is also very common in women diagnosed with PCOS.

Endometriosis is a disorder where tissue that resembles the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterine cavity, such as on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or the tissues lining the pelvis. Each month during the menstrual cycle, the uterus sheds the endometrial tissue. When endometrial growths outside of the uterus shed internally, it can cause pain, inflammation, scarring and/or adhesions. The most common symptoms are heavy bleeding and painful periods, abdominal or pelvic pain, frequent urination, constipation, painful bowel movements and pain during in*******se.

Although neither condition is curable, both are treatable and can be managed through lifestyle changes, medications, and surgery. Remember that heavy, painful, irregular or absent periods and chronic pelvic pain are not normal. If you experience any of these symptoms, please let your healthcare provider know.

Did you know that we freeze and store eggs, embryos and s***m at a chilly -196° Celsius? (That’s -385° degrees Fahrenheit, which is roughly 257° colder than the lowest temperature ever recorded in Antarctica 🥶)

Cryopreservation is a technique most commonly used to help preserve fertility, although it can also be used by people undergoing cancer treatment, hormone therapy, or before gender transition.

We love to see it! has published an article featuring the who’s who in the field of va**nal microbiome research, including Melissa Herbst-Kralovetz, a researcher at our very own University of Arizona!

The va**nal microbiome is a complex and dynamic microecosystem that hosts over 200 bacterial species; and it plays a critical role in determining va**nal health.

In recent years, several epidemiological studies have investigated va**nal dysbiosis (an imbalance where there is overabundance of pathogenic or “bad” strains of bacteria in the va**na) and associated it with increased risk of sexually transmitted diseases, bacterial vaginosis, urinary tract infections, and Group B Streptococcus. Although we know that these bacterial infections affect fertility and the risk of both preterm labor and post-partum complications, as well as overall health and wellbeing, the mechanisms that drive these associations have yet to be described in detail.

We are thrilled to see further research efforts dedicated to understanding the va**nal microbiome, which is fundamental to better helping diagnose and treat the millions of women who are affected by va**nal dysbiosis. You can find the link to the full article in our bio.

It’s fall, which means open enrollment is coming up. This is the window of time when you can sign up for health insurance, adjust your current plan or cancel your plan.

If you get health insurance through your job, your employer will set the enrollment period and let you know which plans are available to you. If you are shopping for Individual & Family ACA Marketplace plans, open enrollment is November 1 through January 15.

If you are planning on undergoing infertility treatment next year, this is a great time to find and compare insurance plans that provide coverage for testing, medications, and treatments including IUI and IVF. But which companies have the best plans? has put together a great list of providers that offer fertility insurance. You can find the full article through the link in our bio. 🔗

Our Story

At Reproductive Health Center, we define success as having our patients leave our care in a happy and healthy state of mind. Of course we are in the business of helping people take home a healthy baby after delivery. And that happens every day. However, we also define success as families who decide to adopt, use donor s***m or eggs or a gestational carrier to have a baby. But our main goal has always been to help build healthy families, no matter what those families look like.
