It is Movement Monday, and this week we are diving into one of the most important questions in Parkinson's care: why does movement matter? ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿšถ

For those living with Parkinson's disease, staying active is about so much more than fitness. Regular movement can help reduce stiffness, improve balance and coordination, support mental and emotional wellbeing, and make a meaningful difference in overall quality of life.

The best part? It does not have to be intense. Even gentle, intentional movement can have a real impact.
Follow along as we break it all down this Movement Monday! ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ’œ April is Parkinsonโ€™s Awareness Month ๐Ÿ’œ

At Senior Helpers, weโ€™re proud to support individuals and families navigating Parkinsonโ€™s disease by focusing on one powerful tool. That is movement.

Small steps can make a big impact. Staying active can help improve mobility, balance, mood, and overall quality of life. Whether itโ€™s walking, stretching, dancing, or participating in strength-based activities, every movement matters.

Our caregivers are specially trained to provide safe, consistent support, help reduce fall risks, assist with daily routines, and encourage meaningful engagement for both individuals and their care partners.

Because care isnโ€™t just about managing symptoms. Itโ€™s about helping people live confidently and independently at home. ๐Ÿ’™

Not all fats are created equal. Some fats help support heart and brain health, while others are best enjoyed in moderation. Understanding the difference can make everyday food choices easier. ๐Ÿซ’๐Ÿ’œ

Good fats are typically unsaturated fats. These fats can help support cholesterol levels, brain function, and overall heart health. Youโ€™ll often find them in foods like:
โ€ข Avocados
โ€ข Olive oil and canola oil
โ€ข Nuts and seeds
โ€ข Fatty fishlike salmon and tuna

Bad fats are usually saturated or trans fats. Eating too much of these fats may increase the risk of heart health concerns, so they are best limited when possible. Common sources include:
โ€ข Fried foods
โ€ข Processed snacks
โ€ข Baked goods made with shortening
โ€ข Fast food meals and processed meats

Choosing more good fats and limiting bad fats is one simple way to support healthy aging through nutrition.

In recognition of Brain Awareness Week, itโ€™s a great time to highlight foods that support brain health at every age. ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’œ

Here are a few brain-healthy foods to keep in mind:
โ€ข Fatty fish like salmon and tuna
โ€ข Leafy greens such as spinach and kale
โ€ข Berries, especially blueberries and strawberries
โ€ข Nuts and seeds like walnuts and flaxseed
โ€ข Whole grains that support steady energy
โ€ข Olive oil for healthy fats

Pairing balanced nutrition with other healthy habits can help support memory, focus, and overall brain wellness as we age.
