Tucson PostpartumTrifecta: ALL your Postpartum needs in one experienced professional. Postpartum, Newborn Nursery, Mother/Baby, Couplet Care, Community/Public Health Registered Nurse:I have worked as an RN in all of these capacities and always give the same superior and passionate care in and out of the hospital/birth center and in home. As an RN, I use my training, education, observation and clin

ical skills in head to toe assessments to get a complete and thorough understanding of how the mother and baby are adjusting. Postpartum nurses wear several hats – advocate, assessments, patient and family educator, counselor, nutritionist, spiritual advisor and resource liaison. CLE (Certified Lactation Educator)
Obtaining this certification came naturally after working many years with families trying to get their baby off to the best nutritional start possible. I provide support by knowing the anatomy of physiology of lactation and assisting mothers with breast feeding, proper positioning, identifying signs of correct latch-on, recognizing feeding/hunger cues, assessing infant hydration status and pumping. I teach the mother about breast and ni**le care along with the importance of proper nutrition and rest. Help to make the partner and other family members feel included and give them tips to help support the nursing mother, as well as make appropriate referrals to pediatrician, lactation consultant and/or support groups. CPD (Certified Postpartum Doula)
My most recent certification demonstrates my desire to further nurture, educate and foster independence in families as they transition into their postpartum period. I like to say this certification is the cherry on top of my ever increasing postpartum knowledge base, which encompasses various aspects of my nursing training and other certifications. As a postpartum doula, I draw more from my emotional mom side and less of my medical side to be able to provide the reassurance, a listening ear, give an encouraging word, lend a helping hand and help the mother and family tap into their abilities and instincts. I also pay close attention to the development of postpartum mood disorders and will help clients screen themselves and make referrals to clinicians or support groups as needed. I respect the partner’s role and input and provide parents the tools they need to go forward with confidence. This is accomplished through personalized, non-judgmental support, that allows you to focus on what you really want – meeting your baby’s needs! My ALL inclusive, comprehensive, postpartum support is based on your individual needs. I bring the peace of mind and training of an experienced professional into the comfort of your home.

Happy National Parent Day! I hit the jackpot with these 2 gems and so did our girls. I never had to wonder if I was loved or prayed for, I was always taken care of (in some amazing 70/80's clothes), had a home-cooked meal with a "family style" dinner every night, and they were always in the stands or at school events. Growing up, our house was always the "go to" house for all our friends. To say I am blessed would be an understatement! I appreciate my parents more than I can say and think every day should be Parent Appreciation Day, they do so much for so many.

I feel like this could be a good time for a PSA for those of us whose parents are getting older (NOPE, I do NOT like to think about it) but if I am being real, it is happening whether I like it or not. To our parents:
-You are and NEVER will be a burden, we are blessed to HELP take care of you!
-Please tell us IF something is wrong, don't be worried, you raised strong humans that can take the news!
-Have the hard conversations, we want to know your wishes and desires
-Get your legal and financial matters up to date
-We want you to keep busy, stay active, travel and enjoy life, you earned it!
-If you get stuck with today's technology or are feeling frustrated reach out, if we can't help, good chance the grandkids can!
-Take care of yourselves physically, emotionally and spiritually. If you don't feel like your health care providers are listening to you, get a new one. Keep advocating for yourself and if that isn't working, sign a form and let us fight alongside you.
-We love to talk, text and email with you, you can always reach out! We want to hear from you.

WE LOVE and APPRECIATE YOU every day💗

"Time passes and we may be apart, but cousins always stay close at heart."-Unknown
“A cousin is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost.” -Marion C. Garretty

I have so many fond memories with all my cousins and the memories we have made throughout the years (graduations, family reunions. weddings and funerals). I love all of them, their spouses and their children. I only wish we lived closer to see each other more often.

As a postpartum nurse, I’ve had the honor of walking alongside thousands of families in those tender first days after birth. I’ve seen the tears, the triumphs, and everything in between. Becoming a parent myself brought an entirely new depth to what I thought I knew. The truth is—no matter how much you prepare, there are parts of the fourth trimester that can only be understood once you’ve lived them.

I'd love to work with you and help shorten your learning curve as you welcome a new addition to your family. Call me today to schedule a FREE consultation to learn more. Let's work together to have an amazing postpartum journey. It is your journey, let Colleen be your guide.

The day after is kind of like a rainbow, we made it through the hard part of celebrating yesterday and take comfort in knowing he will always be remembered on the other 364 days too.

Great article in Times Magazine "The reality is pregnancy affects nearly every organ system, yet most women receive little to no guidance on how to protect or rebuild their health. Our healthcare system waits for problems and then scrambles to respond. It rarely works to prevent them.

We're long overdue for a shift to a proactive model of perinatal care—care that supports women before, during, and after pregnancy—and integrates musculoskeletal medicine, physical therapy, and nutrition." -Dr Ashley Austin

We have a lot of really great pelvic floor PT's here in Tucson, let me know if you need some guidance finding one.

"Pelvic floor and core-strengthening exercises can significantly reduce the risk of wide-ranging complications."

I can't help but laugh at these because they are so true. I have experienced all of them at some point with my youngest and now with my Boston Terrier, especially the heat lamp.

I got 3 points, It should only be 2 or 1.5 BUT........can you guess which ones?????

What can you add?

Nurse Edition have you ever.....
-been cornered by a patient's husband
-gone several 12 hour shifts without eating, drinking or peeing
-nursed a child in a patient room
-received a phone call letting you know that one of your patient's children had passed away unexpectedly
-watched a patient use a turkey baster to clean off with
-walked in on a dad showering
-asked if I needed a microscope to see "something" better
-been told by someone that they want to take their own life?
-argued with a physician for your patient's sake?
-held someone's hand when they were passing?
-bathed, cut a lock of hair and taken hand and foot prints of a deceased child and handed them to her parents?
-watched a resident pass out after a lumbar puncture?
-delivered a baby?
-helped a husband have his wife hospitalized for postpartum psychosis?
-Been told off by a grandmother in a different language?
-Slept for 27 hours straight (so impressive)!

These are just a few scenarios that I have encountered in my 26 years of nursing. Nursing isn't for the weak, and it takes a special person to answer this calling. To all of us veteran nurses, new nurses, retired nurses, nursing students and all those that dream of becoming an RN, THANK YOU!!!

I was recently asked if I would help share information regarding this study. My family is from PA and I have cousins who attended Penn State and a nephew starting there next month, so I thought I would inquire more from Katherine. Would you be interested in getting paid to take part in an online study? Feel free to share this link as she would like to get couples from all over the US, not just from PA.

Below is the link to check your eligibility⬇⬇⬇

Katherine, a Penn State University (graduate student (and a new mom) in the Human Development and Family Studies Department, is recruiting pregnant folks and their partners to take part in a research study investigating "how parents learn how to regulate their emotions in challenging parenting situations across the transition to parenthood. Her hope is that this work can be used to develop/adapt interventions to better support parents’ well-being and their children’s well-being and development. "

Thanks for considering this💗
