🌥️ In today’s Nature Invitation, we began with a gentle meditation beneath an overcast sky. With pen and paper, Garden members reflected in their own way — through words, drawing, or both — following what naturally called their attention.

In our sharing, we spoke not only of what drew us in, but why — the subtle pull of birdsong, the texture of leaves, the calm of soft light filtering through the clouds. Each reflection became its own window into how we connect with the natural world. 🍃✍️✨

Today, our head chef Alan guided us through the art of making the classic Italian treat—cannoli. With a perfect balance of ricotta, cream cheese, orange, almond, and chocolate, he shared his secrets to creating a filling that is simple, rich, and unforgettable.

From crispy shells to creamy centers, every step was a sweet reminder of the joy found in slowing down and savoring life’s flavors. 🍊🍫🌿

As part of our Il Dolce Far Niente theme for August, we ventured to nearby Sonoita wine country to sip, savor, and soak in the stunning views of the Mustang Mountains. 🍷🌄 At the award-winning Los Milics Vineyards, our tastings and lunch paired perfectly with the art of slowing down.

Earlier this month we enjoyed a decadent pasta bar, Italian wine specials, and Watermark University talks on “Hidden Italy.” Next up: a hands-on cannoli class with Chef Alan and a gelato stop at Frost. Ciao for now! 🇮🇹✨

We enjoyed a delicious fresh Italian lunch at Locale Neighborhood Italian, followed by shopping at the charming local market, Roma Imports — all part of this month’s theme: Il Dolce Far Niente, the sweetness of doing nothing. We’re drawing inspiration from Italian culture and the art of savoring life’s simple pleasures.

Next week, our journey continues with a trip to The Met’s encore of Rigoletto.

From the winding canals of Venice at sunset to a peaceful walk through the Great Stupa of Sanchi, our members have been soaking in culture, beauty, and history – all without a booked flight. We’ve even witnessed the restoration of Notre Dame guided by Rector, Patrick Chauvet, and cruised through the stunning red rocks of Zion National Park.

We had an unforgettable day at Chase Field cheering on our Arizona Diamondbacks as they took on the Houston Astros! From a nail-biting game to hot dogs and high-fives, this community outing was a home run. 🍎✨ It’s been harvest time for Anna’s Apples — a Kino heritage fruit grown right here in our Healing Garden — and this year, we were treated to a bumper crop!

For this month’s Watermark University Gather & Graze series, our HR & Associate Engagement Director, Marielena, led members in creating something truly special: a Southwestern twist on fruit mixiote.

Traditionally a pit-barbecued dish wrapped in agave leaves, we gave it a garden-fresh update using banana leaves from our own grounds — wrapping up spiced, chopped Anna’s Apples into fragrant little bundles of joy.

Baked to perfection and served with a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of cream, these garden-to-table treats were filled with flavor, tradition, and the spirit of community. Next month Figs!

A 7.5-acre residential campus on Tucson’s Rillito River, The Hacienda is a unique community for individuals seeking exceptional Assisted Living and Memory Care with unprecedented access to cutting-edge university-based clinical care, programming and research. Designed on the traditions of the colonial hacienda, the grounds will feature buildings interconnected by tree-lined pathways and interspersed with patios, shaded courtyards, gardens and orchards with classic Spanish Colonial design that is common to Tucson’s architecture.
