Conversely, if you’re the more anxiously attached partner who feels insecure when your spouse doesn’t match your emotional energy, sometimes just naming what’s happening helps you feel better. It feels amazing to have someone energetically meet you where you are. Sometimes asking directly for what you are hoping for is all it takes. For example, “I’m feeling really frustrated about something and I’d love to talk to you when you have the energy to get mad about it with me. Let me know when it’s a good time!” It’s always considerate to know when you want someone’s energy and ask for it, rather than expecting someone to chronically be “on call.”
