Your journey doesn’t have an expiration date. 🗓️

Weight loss surgery is a powerful tool, but like any tool, it occasionally needs a "tune-up." Whether you had your procedure with Dr. Jeff Monash years ago or worked with a different surgeon in another city, we are here to support your long-term success.

Many patients feel a sense of "shame" if they experience weight regain or hit a plateau five or ten years down the road. At Tucson Bariatric, we replace that shame with a surgeon’s perspective. Dr. Monash provides specialized follow-up care and non-operative maintenance plans designed to get you back on track. Our "Promise for Life" means we are your partner for the long haul—no matter how many years it’s been since your surgery day.

No judgment. Just solutions. 🤝

In Tucson, staying hydrated isn't just a suggestion, it’s a full-time job. ☀️

For our bariatric community, the "Sonoran Heat" presents a unique challenge. Since you can’t "chug" water to catch up, staying ahead of dehydration requires a strategy.

🔹 The "Sip-Sip-Sip" Rule: Carry an insulated bottle everywhere. Aim for 4-6oz of water every hour. Small, consistent sips are more effective (and comfortable) than large volumes at once.
🔹 Avoid the "Sugar Trap": Many sports drinks are loaded with sugar that can trigger dumping syndrome. Stick to sugar-free, electrolyte-rich additives to stay balanced.
🔹 Pre-Hydrate for the Trails: Heading to Sabino Canyon or Tumamoc Hill? Start your hydration 2 hours before you hit the trail.

Don’t let the Arizona sun stall your progress. Whether you’re 6 months or 6 years post-op, keeping your "metabolic engine" hydrated is the key to feeling your best.

Vitamin B12 plays a crucial role in recovery and long-term health after bariatric surgery. It supports:

✅ Red blood cell formation
✅ Healthy nerve function
✅ Mental clarity and mood
✅ Energy metabolism

Because the digestive changes from surgery can reduce B12 absorption, maintaining adequate levels is essential for feeling your best.

Weight regain after bariatric surgery can happen, and it’s more common than many people realize.

Research suggests that some patients may experience weight changes after reaching their lowest post-surgery weight. If this happens, it’s important to understand that it’s not about willpower or failure. There are biological and behavioral factors that can influence long-term results.

Why might weight regain occur?

• Biological Changes: Hormones that regulate hunger and fullness can shift over time.
• Eating Patterns: Frequent snacking or high-calorie liquids may affect results after surgery.
• Metabolic Factors: Nutrition balance, protein intake, physical activity, and follow-up care all play important roles in maintaining progress.

The Bottom Line:
Changes on the scale don’t mean your surgery “stopped working.” They can be a sign that your health plan may need adjustments.

Ongoing support, medical guidance, and personalized care can make a meaningful difference in long-term success.

Craving Chipotle but want to stay bariatric-friendly? Here's how to build a delicious, protein-packed bowl without the extra carbs or regret.

1. Start with the right base
- Romaine lettuce – lowest carb, fresh, crisp
- Half cauliflower rice + half lettuce
- Brown rice (light scoop)

🚫 Avoid: White rice and Full-sized tortillas

2. Add lean protein
- Grilled chicken – high protein, lean
- Steak – flavorful, but slightly higher fat
- Sofritas (tofu) – vegetarian option with plant-based protein
- Carnitas – tender but fattier, so ask for a small portion

🚫 Barbacoa – flavorful but often too fatty

3. Choose Beans:
- Black beans (light scoop)

🚫 Pinto Beans – slightly higher fat, may have more seasonings

4. Pick your toppings
- Fajita veggies
- Pico de gallo
- Tomatillo salsa (green)
- Guacamole (2 tbsp)
- Cheese (light sprinkle)

🚫 Corn Salsa – high in natural sugars/carbs
🚫 Queso – high in fat and sodium
🚫 Heavy cheese or sour cream

5. Sour Cream or Yogurt?
- Ask for a light drizzle of sour cream or skip it altogether
- Pro tip: At home, replace with plain Greek yogurt

Smart choices, bold flavors, and zero compromise. Your post-op goals never tasted so good.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with these bariatric-friendly cookies. High protein, low sugar, and made to love without compromising your goals.

Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup almond flour
- 1 scoop (30g) vanilla protein powder
- 1 tablespoon coconut flour (for structure)
- 1/4 cup monk fruit or stevia-based sweetener
- 1 egg white
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened almond butter or Greek yogurt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 drops red food coloring (optional, no-sugar natural dyes available)
- Pinch of salt

Optional Decoration:
- Sugar-free Valentine’s sprinkles (such as those made with stevia)
- Melted sugar-free white chocolate (Lily’s or ChocZero), tinted pink with beet powder or food coloring
- Heart-shaped cookie cutter (1.5–2 inches wide)

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Mix all dry ingredients (almond flour, protein powder, coconut flour, sweetener, salt) in one bowl.
3. In another bowl, whisk egg white, almond butter, vanilla, and food coloring.
4. Combine wet and dry ingredients to form a soft dough. Chill for 10–15 minutes if sticky.
5. Roll dough out between two sheets of parchment to about 1/4-inch thick.
6. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies. Place them 1 inch apart on the sheet.
7. Add a light sprinkle of sugar-free Valentine’s sprinkles on top if using.
8. Bake for 8–10 minutes, until just golden at the edges. Cool completely.

(Optional) Drizzle with sugar-free melted white chocolate for contrast.

Tips:
- Avoid artificial dyes if sensitive, use beet powder or pomegranate juice powder for color.
- Keep portions small—these are dense in protein and calories despite being low in sugar.
- Store in an airtight container up to 3 days or refrigerate.
