💙Why did you choose to work as a Certified Behavior Technician (CBT)?

Having always enjoyed working with children, I decided to pursue a career as a Certified Behavior Technician while employed at a daycare. I was particularly inspired by a child in my class who learned in a unique manner. By identifying his interests, I was able to create tailored learning experiences. This experience ultimately motivated me to work one-on-one with children, with the goal of providing them with the most effective learning opportunities possible.

💙What do you like most about your work?

One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is witnessing clients begin to master their programs. I particularly cherish the expressions on their faces when a token is added to their boards or when they complete a task and anticipate a high five.

💙What do you find most challenging about this work?

A challenging part for me in this job is figuring out the best strategies to help our clients learn and acquire new skills . Everyone learns different and it can take time and patience before we see progress.

💙You worked at a BT in schools this year. What did you enjoy about working in schools? Were there any unique challenges?

What i discovered about working in a school setting is that i loved the collaborative spirit of the school team members. Everyone was very energetic, positive and ready with ideas to best help our client thrive! One of the unique challenges i faced was when we went on different field trips/outings, these challenged me to find ways to best navigate and support my client in the community and help them learn life skills in the moment.

Congratulations to this month's Employee Spotlight, Kyla Cura, a behavior technician at Northwest ABA!

👇Check below to see what she has to say about working at Northwest ABA.

💙Why did you choose to work as a Certified Behavior Technician (CBT)?

Becoming a CBT felt like the perfect way to combine my passion for working with children and my interests in behavior and child development. I've always been passionate about supporting children and all the work I've done prior has focused on some aspect of their growth and development. I wanted to get into the field of ABA to make a bigger difference by helping children build skills they need to succeed.

💙What do you like about your work?

I really enjoy getting to see and watch the growth and progress that our clients make daily. Every little achievement they make feels like a big win and it's incredibly rewarding to know that I'm playing a role in them reaching their success and independence.

💙What are some challenges you face as a CBT?

A challenge I face as a BT is finding the right strategy and approach to make progress. Every client is different so finding the right approach can take a lot of time, patience and practice.

💙You also are a member on the social committee. What is a rewarding aspect of that work?

Serving on the Social committee has given me the opportunity to collaborate with members on ways we can build stronger connections among the different regions. It's been super fun getting to know staff across our regions and I really enjoy being part of planning events and activities that bring everyone together.
