145 years ago today, one determined woman proved that a single person with a heart for service can change the world.
Clara Barton founded the American Red Cross on May 21, 1881, after observing the success of the International Red Cross in Europe and recognizing the need to provide assistance to Americans affected by disasters or serving on the battlefield. She served as Red Cross president for 23 years.
Her legacy is a reminder that healthcare is more than medicine. It is showing up. It is staying. It is caring for people as neighbors, not just patients.
