This past week Dr. McBride attended Vision By Design, the annual educational conference of the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control (AAOMC) held this year in West Palm Beach, Florida. This is the premier meeting in the world dedicated to the latest research and management of myopia, which is a world-wide epidemic. Myopia is a disease of the eye causing accelerated growth and elongation of the eye. This results in progressive nearsightedness and exponentially increases the risk of many other eye diseases, including glaucoma and retinal disease. One factor in its recent rise is time spent indoors and on digital devices. Fortunately, we have many ways of controlling the progression of myopia to preserve vision! Dr. McBride achieved International Academy Certification in Myopia Management (IACMM) in 2023 and has been a member of the AAOMC since its inception.

Last Monday we closed the office for a team retreat to review where we have been, refocus our vision and mission, and chart our course ahead. Special thanks to Rebecca Thomas for the great hospitality at The Atlantic venue, which was perfect for our meeting. Our staff did a phenomenal job decorating and helped make the day enjoyable and productive!

We recently celebrated Mia's birthday! Mia is a favorite among our patients as she helps them get ready to see the doctor. She also serves on our Operations Committee to help things go smoothy in the office. When she is not busy helping patients, she is taking classes with sights on a degree in social work. The Tullahoma High School Band is already in their competition season, winning Grand Champion at their first contest last week!
