The abortion pill, also known as a medical abortion, typically uses a combination of two drugs to end a pregnancy. The first pill is mifepristone, which blocks the hormone progesterone. Progesterone is what the body requires for a pregnancy to continue. The second drug, misoprostol, is taken 24 to 48 hours later. This medication causes cramping and bleeding and empties the uterus. The FDA has approved the two-drug regimen for pregnancies up to 10 weeks.

Depending on the method and effectiveness of the drugs, you may be advised to take multiple doses or additional drugs. There are some medical abortion protocols available that are not FDA approved. Be sure you call Mend for more information before taking abortion medication. (918) 745-6000.

One in four early pregnancies end in miscarriage. An ultrasound can detect if your pregnancy is progressing normally. Ultrasounds are also essential for determining your gestational age – how far along you are. You can make an educated guess based on when your last menstrual cycle began, but only an ultrasound can confirm how far along you are.

Don’t rely on a home test only. If you’ve taken a home test, there’s a good chance that it’s reliable. However, the accuracy of home tests vary, so let us do a free medical grade test for you in our clinic. If your results are still inconclusive, a free blood test can provide more information for pregnancies that are still too early for confirmation through ultrasound.
