Every success story inspires us. Here’s what Cindy shared about our team and our hospital:
“While walking in my classroom, my femur broke on Monday, May 12. Nine days later, I was transferred to Tulsa Rehabilitation Hospital.
Every rehab hospital is required to provide patients with three hours of therapy a day, and I can say that the therapists who worked with me at Tulsa Rehab were both kind and tough. They challenged me to push my limits and work through pain while carefully watching to know when to slow down. A special shout-out to Mike and Scott, my primary therapists. As a teacher, I have a lot of respect for their talent in motivating their clients to work to capacity.
I would also like to praise the nurse assistants, whose caring and sense of humor helped me through difficult times. I remember Dawn, who saw me struggling with therapy one morning and kept giving me thumbs up throughout the day. I remember Cici, who gently helped me with my first shower and shampoo since I had broken my femur 11 days earlier. And I remember Josephina, whose sympathetic laughter helped me make it through many nights. Keelala Harri, Josephina! [*a Swahili expression meaning “Good Luck.”]
And while I am praising staff, I must give a shout-out to the cooks. One of the best meals I’ve ever had was a mild fish dish with herbed butter sauce. I NEVER eat fish, but I devoured this particular dish. I also thought their tomato soup was wonderful.
The facility itself was modern, clean, and well suited to people learning to adapt to sudden disabilities. As we exited Tulsa Rehab, I was thrilled to see the staff who had helped me during those thirteen days cheering me on as I went out the door. That meant a lot. Thanks to this special team! Bravo right back to all of you!
P.S. Thanks to you all, I believe I’ll be back in the classroom again this fall.”
