Recovery begins with movement, and movement can change everything. 💪✨

At DEFY, Activity-Based Therapy (ABT) supports neurological recovery by engaging the body and nervous system through purposeful, repetitive training. This approach helps retrain pathways that support mobility, coordination, and strength, giving clients the tools to keep moving forward.

We can’t wait to open our doors soon and bring this innovative program to our community. 🙌

Last week at DEFY, we had the opportunity to welcome Taylor from ONWARD for a hands-on demo of the ArcEx system — an innovative device designed to support individuals with cervical spinal cord injuries (C2–C8), chronic and non-progressive, incomplete AIS grades B, C, or D.

Several of our clients were able to try ArcEx for themselves, and the feedback was nothing short of inspiring. Seeing our community experience new possibilities is exactly why we do what we do. 💙

This giving season, we’re asking for your support to help us bring more life-changing resources like ArcEx to Tulsa. Your generosity strengthens DEFY and the Brain Injury Recovery Foundation mission to empower survivors on their recovery journey.

At DEFY NeuroRehab & Community Center, we use tools that help retrain the brain and body—and the is one of our favorites. 💥

Whole-body vibration can support brain and spinal cord injury survivors by:
✨ Improving muscle strength and activation
✨ Enhancing circulation
✨ Increasing flexibility and mobility
✨ Supporting bone density
✨ Boosting balance + coordination

One of the unique ways we use the Vibe Plate is to practice lateral movement—side-to-side motions that challenge the body differently than traditional forward walking. Think side steps, lateral lunges, or gentle shuffles. These movements help build stability, strengthen under-used muscles, and reduce the risk of injury.

Every small step—forward and sideways—helps create new pathways of recovery. 💚

Activity-Based Therapy (ABT) refers to “training interventions that target activation of the neuromuscular system of the affected areas, with the goal of retraining the nervous system to recover a specific motor task.” Intense physical activity has been shown to improve function and health outcomes in individuals with chronic traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury (SCI) and other neurologic conditions.

ABT focuses on the concept of “Neuroplasticity”. Neuroplasticity is the ability of the brain to form and reorganize connections, leading to improvements in function following injury or diagnosis.
