Hello, my name is Tammy Sunkle. I am the CNA Instructor, but I am also a nurse, a mother of four young adult men, and grandmother of two (soon to be 3) grandbabies. My family has a small farm with a horse, pigs, chickens, and dogs. When I am not working, my time is spent with family at our “littles” sports and school events.
Before becoming an LPN, I became a CNA due to the pandemic. I have been in the medical field since 1992 when I became a Medical Assistant. I focused my career path on Medical Administration full-time while working part-time in Urgent Care and Phlebotomy. I’ve held long term positions in LTC, L-TACH, and Home Care. Since becoming a nurse, I have remained in the LTC and Hospital setting. My heart and compassion are with elders. You will never learn from a history book what you can from someone who lived the history.
When I took this position as a CNA Instructor, I knew it was time for me to educate and inspire others to love the LTC setting as much as I do. Elders once took care of us and now it is our turn to take care of them. My goal as an instructor is to teach the knowledge of clinical skills, recognizing abnormal behavior, how to report findings to the nurse using facts and how to be a caring professional with elders, family members and staff. Most of the time, CNAs spend more time with elders and their family than nurses do. I work to instill empathy and compassion for others, especially in LTC. This career path is my calling and I hope to encourage the love I have for elders in each student.
