OWASSO it's your turn for our Family Support Night! FASD stands for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder which is a lifelong disability that affects the brain and body of people who were exposed to alcohol in the womb. 70-80% of children in the foster care system have been affected by pre-natal alcohol exposure. Please join us at BattleCreek Church in OWASSO as Leslie Keenan, Executive Director of Family Hope House, helps us gain a better understanding of FASD and equips us with tools for success when raising children with these brain differences. Dinner, childcare, and training certificates will be provided. Please REGISTER to reserve your spot on September 21st at 6:00pm.

Helpful info for everyone here who is raising kiddos who fight sleep. I found this info to be extremely helpful when my girls were small. Helped me be patient with their nighttime needs.

We also offered one of our girls an option to be closer to us. We had a permanent pallet of blankets on our floor. And from the time she was about 6 years old, we allowed her to come quietly into our room after midnight. She came in almost every night for several years, carrying her favorite blanket and bear, and we'd discover her in the morning. She was content to be in the same room as us and we got undisturbed sleep. Worked great for all of us!

New Series of infographics - “Why Do Kids Do That?”

Young kids are allergic to separation which routinely shows up at bedtime. There are many reasons for this which makes it one of the toughest times of the day for a young child (and their parents!). Young kids can cling to us out of protest and alarm, refuse to sleep thus leading to bedtime battles and tears.

There is a way through and it starts by making sense of why this time is so hard. From insight we lead into practice, working at the roots of the distress rather than just tackling behaviour at the surface level.

There are so many ways we can help them settle into sleep and to hold onto us when apart.

For more ways to bridge the nighttime separation see my other infographic - “When Saying Goodnight is Hard”

But now, they're sharing brief videos that are super helpful. Check this one out!

One of the first changes we had to make in our parenting was moving from reactive to proactive parenting. It takes more work at first, reacting is easier and...

Hello friends! How are you? Really? I'd love to hear. Comment or message me, let me know what your highs and lows are!

For those who do not know, I wear two professional hats. I am an adoption home study provider (which you know!) AND a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am finding creative ways (through video conferencing) to continue working in both professional realms as we journey through this pandemic. So if you have a home study need, or would like to seek counseling support for yourself or a loved one, let's chat!

In my counseling practice, several of us created articles for our COVID 19 newsletter. We hope that the information will be helpful to the readers. Attached is my contribution, titled ...
