We’re proud to announce that our graduate nurse residency program has received its second accreditation through the ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP) - now officially recognizing our support of new graduate nurses in medical-surgical, step-down, critical care, ante/post-partum and the emergency department. While new graduates have long been thriving in these departments, this expanded accreditation now formally reflects the full scope of our program's excellence.
In addition, we were honored by ANCC PTAP for two "Best Practice" recognitions:
• Community Engagement - Residents volunteer at a local shelter, assisting with clothing drives, touring the facility and learning about its services. This experience builds awareness of social determinants of health (SDOH) and the barriers to care that many in our community face.
• Professional Development Integration - We’ve implemented a modified first-year program inspired by our clinical advancement program (CAP), designed to support growth, foster professional development, increase satisfaction and improve retention.
Since its inception, Hillcrest South’s program has supported 125 new graduate nurses, with a current two-year retention rate of nearly 91%, a remarkable achievement compared to the national first-year RN turnover rate of 22.3% (2025 NSI National Health Care Retention & RN Staffing Report).
We are incredibly proud of our nurse residents, preceptors and leadership teams who make this program a success. Here's to continuing to grow and support the next generation of nursing professionals!
