For most of his life, Brandon experienced instability, incarceration, and untreated mental illness.

Today, thanks to a network of Tulsa community partners—including Family & Children's Services, Housing Solutions Tulsa, JusticeLink Tulsa, and Mental Health Association Oklahoma—Brandon is healthy, housed, and hopeful.

His story illustrates a critical truth: stability begins with housing.

Once Brandon had a safe place to live, he was able to focus on treatment, employment, and building a future.

Investing in mental health care and supportive housing is an investment in our workforce, communities, and public resources.

Read Brandon’s full story and learn how you can advocate for change in our 2026 Advocacy Guide – mhaok.org/advocacyguide.

After losing his job, Joey and his wife, Tracy, fell behind on rent and were evicted from the home they had lived in for five years.

For more than two years, they lived unsheltered in an encampment near downtown Oklahoma City.

Through Key to Home OKC, a public-private partnership led by the City of Oklahoma City - Government, Joey and Tracy connected with Mental Health Association Oklahoma and were offered housing, supportive services, and a path forward.

Their story is a reminder that housing is not the reward for stability—it is the foundation of it.
Read their full story and learn how you can advocate for solutions in our 2026 Advocacy Guide – mhaok.org/advocacyguide.

Oklahoma ranks among the states with the highest eviction rates and the poorest education outcomes. These challenges are deeply intertwined. For Oklahoma’s children, preventing eviction may be one of the most effective—and fiscally responsible—investments we can make to support attendance, academic success, and long-term stability.

Through a partnership with Oklahoma City Public Schools Planning, Research, and Evaluation team, we explored how eviction impacts student attendance, behavior, and academic success.

The findings are clear: housing stability plays a critical role in a child’s ability to learn and succeed.

MHAOK CEO Carrie Blumert has been selected for the ninth cohort of the Urban Land Institute Health Leaders Network—a prestigious program that equips leaders in real estate and land use with the tools and partnerships needed to advance health and social equity through the built environment.

As one of Oklahoma’s largest affordable housing providers, MHAOK understands that safe, stable housing is foundational to health and wellbeing. Through this opportunity, Carrie will join 35 professionals representing five countries—including leaders in development, planning, design, engineering, finance, community engagement, and public health—to collaborate on strategies that create healthier, more equitable communities.

We’re proud to see Carrie represent MHAOK in this network and look forward to the ideas, partnerships, and innovations she’ll bring back to strengthen our work across Oklahoma.

Housing stability affects our schools, workforce, healthcare system, and communities.

Our 2026 Advocacy Guide shares client stories and policy recommendations to improve mental health, housing, and homelessness in Oklahoma.

The guide also includes new findings from a research collaboration with Oklahoma City Public Schools, examining how eviction impacts student attendance, academic performance, and behavior.

There are four bills moving forward this legislative session that could help reduce the impact of eviction on Oklahoma students and families:

SB 1209 Senator Julia Kirt - Extends the eviction timeline by removing Sundays and federal holidays from the filing schedule.
HB 2015 Rep. Daniel Pae - Protects tenants from landlord retaliation when reporting unsafe living conditions.
HB 3698 - Ellen Pogemiller for State House - Expands access to legal representation for families facing eviction in rural communities.
HB 3386 (Rep. Amanda Clinton) - Ensures access to mediation for families with minor children facing eviction.
