đź”” LEGISLATIVE ALERT đź”” SB 1209 is expected to be heard on the House floor this week.

Oklahoma's current eviction process is one of the fastest and cheapest in the nation, forcing thousands of families into crisis each year.

Authored by Senator Julia Kirt and Representative Daniel Pae, SB 1209 offers a practical step toward addressing Oklahoma’s eviction crisis by extending the timeline—excluding Sundays and federal holidays from the filing schedule.

Mental Health is life.

Shelly’s story is a reminder that when people have access to the right support—employment, housing, and compassionate care—recovery is possible. What started as a last resort became a turning point.

Throughout Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re sharing stories that show what mental health really means for individuals, families, and our communities.

You can be part of that change. Your support helps connect Oklahomans to the care and resources they need to rebuild their lives.

We’re grateful to Mayor David Holt and the City of Oklahoma City - Government for officially proclaiming May as Mental Health Awareness Month.

Mental health impacts every corner of our community—regardless of age, race, background, or circumstance. Expanding access to care, reducing stigma, and increasing awareness are essential to ensuring all Oklahomans can achieve health and stability.

Throughout this month, we encourage you to check in on friends and loved ones, prioritize your own self-care, and support organizations working to expand access to mental health services. Even small actions can make a meaningful difference.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month—and in Oklahoma, the need is urgent.

1 in 4 Oklahomans are experiencing mental health challenges, yet most of our state lacks enough providers to meet that need. Too many people wait years to seek help, or can't access it at all.

This month is a reminder to check in, speak up, and support one another—even when everything seems "fine" on the surface.

You are not alone. Help is available. If you or a loved one is experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline. For free help finding care and resources, call Mental Health Association Oklahoma's Mental Health Assistance Center at (918) 585-1213 or (405) 943-3700, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

We are excited to introduce Len Pierre as a keynote speaker for the 2026 Zarrow Mental Health Symposium! This year's symposium will bring together hundreds of attendees in downtown Tulsa, as we focus on forging new connections within the mental healthcare community.

Len Pierre is an award-winning entrepreneur, professor, social activist and change agent, specializing in the development of educational programs and services with decolonization and reconciliation as its core values. Pierre holds a Masters degree in Education from Simon Fraser University focusing on Indigenous curriculum and instructional design. Pierre infuses his identity as Coast Salish from Katzie (kate-zee) First Nation into his Indigenous education and program leadership throughout colonial Canada. Through a partnership with Dr. Jacob Dearmon of Oklahoma City University Ronnie K. Irani Center for Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, Mental Health Association Oklahoma has compiled and analyzed all Oklahoma County eviction filings in 2025.
While filings decreased by 3.5% compared to 2024, the overall eviction rate of 12.07% is alarmingly high.

High eviction rates lead to higher rates of school absenteeism, job loss, family separation, incarceration, and hospitalization. When we invest in strategies to address eviction and housing stability, we invest in our families, schools, and communities.

More than 17,000 evictions were filed in Oklahoma County in 2025. While that’s a slight 3.5% decrease from 2024, the eviction rate remains alarmingly high.

Eviction is more than a housing issue—it has far-reaching, long-lasting impacts on our schools, healthcare system, workforce, jails, and the stability of entire communities. It’s also a key driver of poor mental health outcomes and an on-ramp to homelessness.

Through a partnership with Dr. Jacob Dearmon and Oklahoma City University Ronnie K. Irani Center for Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence at the Meinders School of Business, Mental Health Association Oklahoma has compiled and analyzed all Oklahoma County eviction data for 2025–ensuring policymakers, leaders, and community partners have access to accurate, actionable information.
