This Saturday, nearly 700,000 Oklahomans could lose access to food assistance as SNAP benefits end during the government shutdown.

Governor Stitt has the power — and the $1 billion Rainy Day Fund — to prevent a hunger crisis. But so far, he’s chosen not to act.

We can’t stay silent while our neighbors go hungry. Contact your state legislators today and demand emergency action to release funds for food assistance.

Together, we can make sure no Oklahoman goes hungry.

Thank you to Love's Travel Stops for supporting Mental Health Association Oklahoma through their United Way of Central Oklahoma fundraising campaign!

At the closing ceremonies for the Love’s campaign, President Shane Wharton joined MHAOK Board President Wendy Thompson, MHAOK CEO Carrie Blumert and United Way of Central Oklahoma CEO Rachel Holt as Love’s employees celebrated their friendly competitions for a good cause.

Teams placing in basketball, dodgeball and trivia all chose MHAOK as their charity of choice, supporting our work to promote mental health, prevent su***de and end homelessness across Oklahoma. đź’š

Lawmakers, service providers and advocates recently met at the Oklahoma State Capitol to discuss one of our state’s most urgent needs: safe and stable housing for everyone.

The message was clear. When people have housing and support, they can rebuild their lives and move forward. Punitive responses like arrests or forced treatment do not solve homelessness; they only push people further from help.

The discussion highlighted evidence that direct-to-housing programs work and save taxpayer dollars. With continued collaboration and sustained commitment, Oklahoma can keep building solutions rooted in compassion and long-term impact.

Oklahoma is at a crossroads. Our state faces a shortage of nearly 85,000 affordable rental homes for extremely low-income renters, and one of the highest eviction rates in the nation.

These two realities leave too many Oklahomans struggling to find and keep safe, stable housing.

But here’s the thing: the policies that shape renters’ lives aren’t made in Washington — they’re made right here in Oklahoma.

The next legislative session doesn’t begin until February, but lawmakers are deciding now which bills to author, sponsor, and support.

That means your voice matters now more than ever.

Reach out to your state legislators and ask them to back practical, common-sense solutions that keep Oklahomans housed, healthy, and hopeful.

Find details, a sample script, and contact info for your legislators at mhaok.org/blog.

For Oklahomans who care deeply about improving outcomes for our neighbors, especially those experiencing homelessness or mental illness, recent news has been tough to hear. Mental health providers are facing significant funding cuts, while state leaders look to punitive approaches to address homelessness.

It's easy to feel powerless in moments like these. But every Oklahoman has a powerful tool for change: their voice.

Many decisions shaping mental health and housing policy aren't made in Washington, D.C.—they're made right here at home by our state legislators.

In the coming weeks, we'll share how you can engage with your legislators before the next session begins, and how to advocate for the bills and solutions our communities need.

Your ideas can become their bills. But only if you speak up—early and often.

Oklahoma City voters showed up in a big way this week, overwhelmingly approving the 2025 GO Bond package that included $50 million dedicated to affordable housing.

This investment will help address Oklahoma’s housing shortage by supporting new construction and preserving existing affordable units. Stable housing is a foundation for mental health, and this funding brings our community closer to giving everyone a safe place to call home.

Thank you, OKC, for voting to strengthen the systems that support our neighbors and promote long-term stability! 🏠
