Message to Patients - PLEASE READ!
Robert Norman, Executive Director
To our patients at Sunshine Community Services of Tulsa I want to start with an apology. Many of you have shared frustration about not being able to reach us, or not getting calls returned. This troubles me deeply. We’ve always prided ourselves on communication and continuity of care, and lately we’ve fallen short.
Over the past couple of months, our organization has faced major challenges. We lost a financial sponsor that supported much of our staff. Some team members were laid off, and others had to move on to support their families. On top of that, we made the decision to relocate our clinic—suddenly and with more difficulty than we expected.
Part of that move meant we could not keep our old phone system. The number did not belong to us, and the process to transfer it proved to be too difficult and time-consuming, so we made the decision to switch to what was our administrative line. At the same time, demand for services, especially through Raven Arnold’s practice, has grown faster than we anticipated. Our phone system simply hasn’t kept up.
I’ve worked long hours trying to fix this, and while I can’t promise someone will always answer right away, I have added technology to better handle calls and voicemails. My hope is that this will bring improvement while we continue to build stronger systems, policies, and staff support.
I also want to be honest with you all. Running a clinic with four providers, operations, and staff is overwhelming at times. I knew this job would be tough, but I wasn’t prepared for the weight of responsibility. Still, I will not back down, and neither will the team. Our mission is to bridge gaps in healthcare for vulnerable people and even though we’ve created new gaps with our communication, we are learning, growing, and committed to doing better.
Please don’t give up on us. Take care of yourselves and get the attention you need wherever you can, but know that we’re not going anywhere. We love you, and we’re going to keep fighting to serve you.
Shine on,
Rob
