Vanessa (RBT) and Sebastian ( client) are busy at work tackling goals!💪🏼During this session, they are targeting functional skills like:

👕🧦Matching similar items (pants with pants/socks with socks).
🍅🥒Identifying items that belong together, strengthening his understanding of object relationships and categorization.

Sebastian also worked on spelling his name with his AAC device, building both communication and literacy skills. To wrap up his session, Vanessa helped Sebastian identify items based on their function such as “point to the items you can sit on” or “show me what you write with.”

We are so proud of Sebastian for working so hard to develop his language skills, critical thinking and independence! Go team!⚡️

👕🧦Emparejar objetos similares (pantalones con pantalones, calcetines con calcetines).
🍅🥒Identificar objetos que van juntos, fortaleciendo su comprensión de las relaciones entre objetos y la categorización.

Sebastián también trabajó en deletreando su nombre usando su dispositivo para comunicar, desarrollando tanto sus habilidades de comunicación como de lectoescritura. Para cerrar la sesión, Vanessa ayudó a Sebastián a identificar objetos según su función, como por ejemplo: “señala los objetos donde te puedes sentar” o “muéstrame con qué se escribe”.

We have a familiar face joining us in our Department! Everyone, welcome back BLAKE!💥

Blake graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with his Undergrad in Psych and then proceeded to get his Master’s in Psych at Capella University. Blake worked at Soaring on Hope years ago as an RBT and decided to return as a BCBA. He grew up in the Tulsa area and loves NCAA/NFL football, playing with his rescue fur baby and is passionate about aiding others in developing an autonomous lifestyle.

”I came to work at SOH to work with a group of people whom have compassion for others and want to pursue excellence. I became a BCBA because I have a passion to give kids the power of functional communication - something I feel like I struggled with as a child myself.”

For August’s Life Skills Day, our Department big kids and littles participated in a “Day at the Movies.”🍿🎬Our clients were able to practice important real-world skills like:

🗣Social interaction by engaging with peers and staff.
⏰Waiting skills by waiting patiently in line for tickets and concessions.
💰Money management and purchasing by “buying” their own movie tickets and snacks.
➡️Following directions by locating their assigned seats using their movie tickets.
💼Job skills by selling popcorn and movie tickets to peers.

Our ABA clients navigated the entire movie-going experience like champs. Afterward, they enjoyed watching a movie with friends - promoting independence AND social skills. What a great day!☀️

Introducing August’s RBTs of the Month - Vanessa in our Main Building and Jacey in our ECC!🥳

Vanessa constantly models professionalism and dedication in her work. She stays calm during challenging behaviors and maintains RBT expectations with excellence. Her ability to implement every client’s DRO procedures with fidelity is outstanding. She is reliable and a strong presence on the floor - someone the team can always count on. Her thoughtful approach and attention to detail have made a meaningful impact in our Main Building and we are so incredibly thankful for all she brings to the table!

This is Jacey’s second time being RBT of the Month and rightfully so! She always goes above and beyond in her role as an RBT. She is always willing to support her fellow RBTs and treats every client with kindness, dignity and genuine care. Jacey consistently advocates for the needs of her clients - whether it's suggesting adjustments to programs or seeking ways to improve access to communication devices. She even arrives 10-20 minutes early each day to ensure sessions are set up for success! Jacey’s commitment to her clients shines through in everything she does and we are so grateful for her journey here!

Congrats, ladies! You more than deserve it!🎉

Denitza has graduated and is now on to conquer even more goals!🎉

During her session💬 with Diane, Denitza worked on correctly using possessive pronouns at the sentence level and answering “why” questions while playing Pop the Pig to keep it fun.

Laura graduated from Wichita State this year with her Master’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She is so grateful and excited to have such an impactful role in the lives of children and their families. Laura believes in the power of collaboration between like-minded professionals and parents to help enhance communication across all environments.💬

Laura enjoys traveling, playing the local food critic, rummaging through estate sales and spending time with friends and family. She grew up on a farm in Kansas and is looking forward to starting her next adventure here in Tulsa. We are SOH excited to have her be a part of the SOH fam!🥳
