Experts say FDA officials and doctors should treat hormone therapy like any other drug that has both benefits and risks, and remember that hormones aren’t the only options for treating menopausal symptoms anymore.

📢 Big News in Women’s Health!
We’re excited to share that the FDA has announced the initiation of removing the broad “black-box” warnings from hormone replacement therapy (HRT) products for menopause.

For over two decades, women and their healthcare providers navigated HRT decisions under a shadow of outdated warnings. The FDA’s recent decision follows a thorough scientific review, including an expert panel and public comment.

Here’s what it means for you:
• HRT – when discussed with your provider – may now be considered without some of the previously restrictive labeling that may have deterred treatment.
• This change acknowledges more recent evidence showing benefits for women who start HRT within about 10 years of menopause or before age 60 (in selected cases) in reducing risks of fractures, cardiovascular disease, and possibly cognitive decline.
• As always, HRT is a decision between you and your healthcare provider — it’s not a one-size-fits-all.

🌟 At Jay Williamson, D.O., we believe in empowering women with up-to-date information about their health options. If you’ve been curious or uncertain about HRT, now is a great time to have a conversation with your healthcare provider.

👉 Feel free to share this post so others can know about this significant update.

October is Menopause Awareness Month, and we’re proud to announce that Jay Williamson, D.O. is now a Certified Menopause Society Practitioner! 👏

Dr. Williamson is passionate about making sure his patients feel heard, supported, and empowered through every stage of their menopause journey. He takes the time to truly listen, advocate for individualized care, and educate patients on the many treatment options available to improve their health and overall well-being.

📊 A recent study published in Menopause: The Journal of The Menopause Society, titled “I did not recognize myself”: A mixed methods study to better understand the experiences of menopause in a US workplace by Mallen, Coppola, Shaffer, Minkin, Ward, and Snow, sheds light on the real impact of menopause at work:

•83% of midlife women surveyed reported experiencing menopause symptoms
•Most-reported symptoms affecting work included sleep changes, memory issues, hot flashes, and anxiety
•Symptoms affected stress, concentration, confidence, and patience
•7% took time off work due to symptoms, yet only 9% received any workplace support

The research highlights a major gap in support and education for working women experiencing menopause — and why raising awareness and removing stigma is so critical.

Menopause matters — at work, at home, and everywhere in between. You are not alone in your symptoms — and with compassionate expert care, there is help and hope. 💜

Let’s continue the conversation. Call our office at 918-982-6250 for a hormone consultation!
