OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine alumni making us a proud. 🙌

Check out this story from CNN about Dr. Trad helping a fellow passenger mid-flight when he suffered heart attack symptoms.

Oklahoma cardiologist Dr. TJ Trad was fast asleep on a flight last month when a member of his team woke him up to say someone needed a doctor.

Trad rushed over to the passenger who needed help to find a man drenched with sweat and complaining of chest pain. The man looked at the doctor and anxiously asked, “Am I going to die?”

“Not today,” Trad told the man.

He believed that the man was having a heart attack – pain the doctor was intimately familiar with after surviving one himself just last year.

Trad also knew he had the tools that might help save the man’s life if it was a heart attack.

Alumni Spotlight

Name: Justin Rein
Graduating Year: 2024
Program: Biomedical Sciences

“I recently graduated from OSU with a master’s degree in biomedical sciences and am currently pursuing a master’s degree in public health. I originally studied electrical engineering, but working as a patient transporter at Mercy Hospital opened my eyes to the power of medicine and inspired me to reorient my career.

During my time at OSU-CHS, I embraced numerous learning opportunities including a LEAN scholarship project and conducting research under Dr. Wallace. These experiences reaffirmed the importance of evidence-based interventions in improving patient outcomes and protecting public health.

Outside of my academic pursuits, I continuously seek ways to give back to the community. Serving as a medical scribe in a urology and internal medicine clinic gave me hands-on insight into patient care and collaboration.

I am grateful to be part of a vibrant community at OSU. This environment has been integral to my development as a future health care provider, leader, and advocate. I am a proud member of SACNAS at OSU-CHS. I believe that bringing together different backgrounds, cultures and perspectives strengthens our collective ability to solve complex health challenges.

I am proud to share that I was recently accepted into the Rural Scholar Program. This opportunity will allow me to deepen my understanding of health care delivery in underserved areas and equip me with the tools to serve rural communities as a compassionate, knowledgeable, and resourceful physician, which is my ultimate goal.”
