The Kettlebell has been an integral piece of my personal movement puzzle since 2010. Weaving its way in and out of favor as other practices became more attractive at different times over the years.

Yet, it has always remained present in a foundational way both in how I move and coach. Lessons learned from Kettlebell have been ingrained and always show through in one way or another. It simply takes paying attention and the dots connect.

I have been on a roller coaster of random leg injuries over the last several years, that have seriously limited my movement practice. With my options limited, I leaned on lessons learned through patience, perseverance and believed that the body can heal if given the right formula. The healing is happening and with it, the Kettlebell is currently becoming sexy again and is moving its way back into the forefront of my practice.
👊c.w.a.combatives and helping others stay safe and get home to their loved ones has become my personal movement passion. However, along with and , the Kettlebell now completes the core foundational principles of Mindful Body Fitness...Restore Strengthen & Protect.

Always Grow...Always Learn...Always Share...these are just a few thoughts that I continue to infuse into my life, my sons life and my movement practice.

Continually growing and learning new skills has allowed me to share with and help others find alternative ways to create their own movement practices. It's important to note, that one size / style / thing does not fit for everyone. What does fit though, is that we all continually need to challenge our brains and move our bodies - IN LOTS OF WAYS!!

Today, I see movement through three lenses - RESTORE STRENGTHEN PROTECT. Of course, all three overlap and that's the beauty of it. Each one feeds the other. We must explore and practice, find what we enjoy, then begin to restore or bodies strength and ultimately we can be empowered to learn how we can protect ourselves and our loved ones. It's definitely a journey and a journey that's well worth it if you are continuing to GROW LEARN and SHARE.

It's amazing that it has been more than a year now since I began burning up the road from Tulsa, Ok. to Dallas, Tx. for the opportunity to train and study .c.w.a.combatives. It is both a blessing and an honor to be sharing this system with others not only in Tulsa, but throughout Oklahoma.

We now have four A.C.W.A. Instructors in the Tulsa area and our community is growing. The A.C.W.A. has become an integral piece of what we do and how we mindfully approach movement at Mindful Body Fitness Tulsa.

Our approach in helping others has evolved into three foundational principles:
RESTORE - STRENGTHEN & PROTECT.

Within these three principles can be found additional layers that allow us to explore not only movement, but the why's, how's & what's that make us individually tick.

Personally, the Academy of Combative Warrior Arts System is helping me connect my movement dots with a much greater purpose...offering others both ideas and training on how to better STAY SAFE & GET HOME to their loved ones resonates strongly with me.

My face says it all in this picture. Lauren Hidalgo is delivering a perfect Cover & Crash during a recent Academy of Combative Warrior Arts (A.C.W.A.) Instructor Training Weekend.

The movements within the A.C.W.A. System are special. Ranging from natural instincts to psychological to philosophical. All interwoven so that we may have a better understanding of what Self- Defense really looks like from day to day. Remember, as A.C.W.A. Founder Justin Everman always says, "Self-Defense is NOT just punching & kicking." It is so much more.

Mindfully we Move and continue to be students on our journey. Continuing to soak up new and different ways to challenge ourselves. A.C.W.A. offers us this chance to evolve and to learn. To learn about ourselves and about the world we live in.

I was told that I would have flat feet all my life...I was informed in my teens that I would need orthotics in my shoes for support...

Not knowing better 35 years ago, my parents and I decided on orthotics. This altered the course of my life and athletic career in more ways than I could have imagined. If we only knew then what we know today...how some consistent daily barefoot walks on uneven terrain can alter the strength not only in our feet, but throughout our entire systems. Simply showing up with mindfulness and allowing our bodies to do what they can and are built to do can be life changing.

On the left, the picture is my foot prints today after 10 years, yes 10 years, of slow steady progress. Starting at the age of 39, I began to rebuild my feet by taking one barefoot or minimally shod step at a time. It's definitely a journey, but one well worth it.
👣
I love Spring and Summer as it is during this time that we can really get outside and practice. So, understand that it will take time and give yourself permission to ease into a barefoot practice. Your feet and your body will thank you for it.

Our ability to move and act mindfully can be found everywhere. Especially when a movement is a fine motor skill and takes feel and dexterity...like opening handcuffs with a hair pin.

Recently, I was able to experience the .c.w.a.combatives Urban Escape & Evasion Course again with a good friend. My son, .baulch, also joined in and participated in the entire course. His ability to get out of restraints ( handcuffs in this picture ) was excellent...far better than his dad!!

Once again, I was definitely reminded of the importance to train and practice many things, to constantly seek out new opportunities to learn and grow and finally to always remember that Mindful Movement is everywhere.
