This is me.

I was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to my writer dad, Gordon, and stay at home mom, Beverly in 1977. I and my family of 5 younger siblings moved to Flower Mound, TX, a booming suburb of Dallas, at the age of 7, where the family home remains. Growing up a Dallas Mavericks/Cowboys/Texas Rangers fan, I quickly became an athlete myself and spent much of my formative years playing basketball and softball. When it became apparent that a professional sporting career was not in my future, I turned to academics where I earned an academic scholarship to Oral Roberts University, studying Pre-med Health and Exercise Science. After graduating from ORU in 2000, I spent a year in Dallas working in a sports science lab, performing fitness testing on amateur and professional athletes including the Dallas Mavericks and Stars. Upon being accepted to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX, I spent the next 4 years enjoying island life and the rigors of medical school. It was during these 4 years that I grew to love the field of Orthopaedic Surgery, and began to pursue a residency spot in what is always a spirited competition for a limited number of positions each year. On Match Day 2005, I learned that I had matched to my top choice, the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. For 5 years, braving (and yes, even enjoying) grey days and drizzle, I learned from and was mentored by top orthopaedic educators, each day expanding my knowledge and honing my skills in all things bone, joint, muscle, ligament, and tendon. I also learned the art of treating each patient as an individual and valuing their individual and unique concerns. With my background as an athlete and love for sports, I decided that I would like to become a specialist in Sports Medicine. To that end, at the end of my residency, I entered a one year subspecialty fellowship at TRIA Orthopaedic Center in Minneapolis, MN. For that year, I braved (and yes, even enjoyed) many a day of sunshine and snow (86 inches that year), fortunate to be learning and perfecting the intricacies of minimally invasive, arthroscopic surgical techniques. My evenings and weekends were spent covering a variety of sporting events such as Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx basketball, Minnesota Twins baseball, the NFL Combine, college and high school football, pond hockey tournaments, and running events. Though I loved both Seattle and Minneapolis, I yearned to be closer to my family still in Dallas and friends I’d made in Tulsa while in college, and so decided, upon completion of my training to move back to Tulsa to begin my practice of medicine. During my time in Tulsa, I’ve seen my life develop both professionally and personally, setting down roots in Green Country. I have been the team physician for Coweta High School since 2015, and have invested much time and energy in the Tulsa community. I can often be seen attending concerts at Cains Ballroom or the Brady Theater, trying out new food and drink establishments in the downtown corridor, listening to visiting lecturers through Booksmart Tulsa events, or perusing the art galleries on the First Friday art crawls. And now that my firstborn, Thatcher, has been added to the fold, I’ll be bringing a stroller along to those events.
