Slashes over $21 billion in National Institutes of Health research funds, including up to $1.4 billion in HIV funds

Eliminates the Housing Opportunities for People with HIV/AIDS (HOPWA) program

When you're HOPE's harm reduction manager, your camera roll may or may not turn into a work highlight reel. Huge thanks to Alexa for all of her hard work managing the vending machine program to provide free supplies to those in our community who need them. From Narcan and sterile items to condoms and rapid tests, these supplies protect the public health of all Oklahomans.

Need supplies? Register for our public health vending machines and pick up supplies in our lobby, in our exterior machine, or from our machine in the Colvin Center on the OSU campus.

Together, we’ve made incredible progress in the fight against HIV, but it’s fragile.

Federal programs like Ryan White and the Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative have saved countless lives. Now, proposed budget cuts for 2026 threaten access to testing & treatment.

This isn’t just about numbers—it’s about people. Each year, there are about 32,000 new HIV diagnoses in the U.S., with a lifetime medical cost of over $500,000 per case. That’s more than $16 billion in potential expenses avoided every year when prevention is available.

Around the world, communities face even greater consequences: a recent study warns that aid reductions could result in up to 2.9 million more HIV-related deaths by 2030.

Now more than ever, awareness matters.
