*Emergency Medicine Mondays*
We will be featuring many of the EMS providers within our county each Monday from now until the showing of "Honorable, but broken: EMS in Crisis"- an EMS documentary that explores the world of EMTs and Paramedics, the collapse of the EMS system, and what needs to be done to save it. (Please see the attached flyer for details on our upcoming FREE showing event at The Dietrich Theatre on September 10th)
๐โจ EMS Spotlight: Annrae Travis โจ๐
๐ฉโโ๏ธ My name is Annrae Travis. Iโve been an EMT for 25 years, and for the last 3 years Iโve been serving with Meshoppen Ambulance.
๐ก My inspiration came when I was only 4 years old. I was in a lawn mower accident, and the EMS crew that cared for me was so compassionate. From that moment, I knew thatโs what I wanted to do. โค๏ธ
๐ Something people might not realize:
EMS can be a challenging careerโno two calls are ever the same. Thatโs why we constantly train and prepare for anything.
โจ A memorable moment on the job:
A moment Iโll never forget is our first successful CPR call and the incredible teamwork that made it happen.
๐ค What I enjoy most about serving this community is the time I get to spend with patientsโreally getting to know them and building that special connection.
๐ง To stay calm in emergencies, I remind myself itโs my patientโs emergency, not mine. And I always remember that every call takes a team effort.
๐จ What she wants you to know about rural EMS:
In rural EMS, one ambulance call can take 2โ3 hours, which sometimes means we need help from neighboring ambulance companies to cover our area.
๐ฃ Advice for future EMTs & volunteers:
Go on a ride along! Itโs the best way to see if this work is right for you.
๐ถWhat she does off duty:
Outside of EMS, I love spending time with my husband and children, listening to music, reading, and cuddling with my dogs, Jake & Coco.
