If your child does not have therapy that day and wants to participate, they must be accompanied by an adult. If your child does have therapy during the allotted time, come prepared and his or her therapist will incorporate water day fun into their session! We can't wait to see you!

Here are a few simple ways to help your child grow their communication skills:

πŸ—£ Talk through your day – Describe what you're doing and name everyday objects. Pause and let your child respondβ€”even if they're not using words yet.
πŸ“– Read daily – Use books with rhyme and repetition, and let your child predict what happens next or help "tell" the story.
🧸 Play creatively – Use common objects like boxes and pans to spark the imagination. Talk about what you're pretending together!
🌳 Get outside – Talk about what you see, hear, and feel. Compare objects using words like big/little, loud/quiet, soft/hard.

Sensory integration is how the brain organizes and responds to information from our sensesβ€”vision, hearing, touch (tactile), smell, taste, and the lesser-known senses: Vestibular (balance and head position) and Proprioception (body awareness from muscles and joints).

Sometimes, a child's brain has trouble processing this inputβ€”this is called Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). You might notice signs like:

πŸ”Ή Picky eating
πŸ”Ή Sensitivity to noise or light
πŸ”Ή Difficulty with balance or coordination
πŸ”Ή Preference for certain fabrics or clothing
πŸ”Ή Frequent meltdowns with no clear cause

The weather was beautiful for the ribbon cutting of Camp Kamassa last week! Camp Kamassa is set on 426 acres in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, and has been designed to accommodate the needs of campers who live with and face various illnesses and challenges. It is the first year-round camp in Mississippi!

Beyond Therapy is a proud partner of this awesome camp by providing resources for those with sensory processing disorder, including a sensory room furnished with a platform swing, fidgets, and other items used in a typical therapy session. In-services, among other fundraising events, will be provided!
