Life can be such a struggle even when things appear to be going well. Often our relationships leave us feeling wounded and hurting. You have heard it said “hurting people hurt people”. The truth is that we do not heal in a vacuum, isolated from others. It takes healthy relationships to help heal the emotional wounds that we walk around with. Beginning with Person Centered Therapy, it is my goal to create a safe environment for individuals to begin the healing process; an environment that individuals feel safe to share their soul wounds, their experiences, and the issues that are going on within. Many individuals are functioning with past traumas and have adopted negative self talk and maladaptive behaviors to deal with their daily stressors. If you are seeking a safe environment to move toward healing, I will be glad to help guide you through the process.

I graduated from the University of Mississippi in December 2001 with a Master’s of Education in Community Counseling. I specialize in play therapy techniques, and have worked with children and youth in the school system and through the Oxford Play Therapy Therapy Training Institute, and continue to use this mode of therapy in my private practice. After receiving my license as a professional counselor in February 2004, I worked with individuals with developmental disabilities using Applied Behavior Analysis at the North MS Regional Center. I now provide individual therapy for adults, youth and children as early as 3 years of age. I have training and experience in Play Therapy, Applied Behavioral Analysis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).

We are so happy to add Kris Riddle, Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Qualified Supervisor (LPC-S) to our clinical staff, bringing 25+ years experience to our team.

After graduating from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 1996, Kris began his career working with individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. He earned his Masters Degree in Counselor Education in 2001, and became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2008. Since then Kris has also worked in Inpatient Psychiatric and Outpatient Settings. He has received additional training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy with children.

Kris works with individuals experiencing challenges with past trauma, grief, anxiety, relationship difficulty, and substance abuse. He utilizes Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy, and Reality Therapy. His approach utilizes genuineness and acceptance while working to change beliefs, thinking, and behavior that contribute to an individual’s challenges.

Kris enjoys spending time with his wife of 19+ years and daughter along with their dog and, most of the time, their cat. He enjoys the outdoors by hiking, camping, and running.

Are there any “good ones” out there?

To pick people of good character, we have to first become a person of healthy character. To find someone who can connect, we have to connect. To relate to someone with good boundaries, we have to have good boundaries of our own. To be with someone who is real, we have to grow past our own perfectionism. The work is worth the effort. (Note that this is in the context of general relationship conflict and is not meant to place blame on victims of abuse. Abuse is never your fault!)

The Bible calls the voice of our enemy the “Accuser,” but it calls the voice of the Holy Spirit our “Advocate.” Do your thoughts sound more like accusations against yourself, your circumstances, or others? Or do your thoughts sound like your Advocate? God wants you to know and think on the truth of His love for you and His promises that breed faith, hope and love.

Colby has served in two churches in Tupelo since moving here in 2013 (First United Methodist and The Orchard). Currently, he is in the process of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor and looks forward to stepping into the field where his deeper calling and gifts are found.
