Did you know: There seems to be the illusion that a person who looks a particular way is “fit”. Basically it’s an image. Fit is often defined as having a lean, muscular yet thin body with low body fat, a tight, round butt and 6-pack abs. As a health care professional in the health and fitness industry, I have definitely heard this over and over again.
I’ve come to understand that when people say “she’s so fit” they are often referring to an image, a particular look. Looking fit, in some cases, is temporary. People strive to achieve it for a moment and can’t often sustain it long-term. Looking fit can be accomplished largely by rigid dieting with limited exercise.
Looking fit and being fit is good BUT how are you internally? Have you had your annual physical? Have you had your blood work performed this year? If not, come see me at Hooks Diabetes & Medicine Clinic, so you will know if you are fit and healthy! 662-260-4708. I look forward to serving you!

Did you know: Cholesterol is a type of fat (lipid) in your blood. Your cells need cholesterol, and your body makes all it needs. But you also get cholesterol from the food you eat.
If you have too much cholesterol, it starts to build up in your arteries. (Arteries are the blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart.) This is called hardening of the arteries, or atherosclerosis. It is the starting point for some heart and blood flow problems. The buildup can narrow the arteries and make it harder for blood to flow through them. The buildup can also lead to dangerous blood clots and inflammation that can cause heart attacks and strokes!!!
Why Does Cholesterol Matter?
Your cholesterol levels can help your provider find out your risk for having a heart attack or stroke!!! But it's not just about your cholesterol. Your provider uses your cholesterol levels plus other things to calculate your risk. These include:
• Your blood pressure
• Whether or not you have diabetes
• Your age, s*x, and race.
• Whether or not you smoke.
Come see Dr. Hooks to get your cholesterol levels checked. Please call 662-260-4708 for an appointment. Walk-ins are welcomed.

Did you know: Dr. Hooks is specifically trained in Endocrinology.
She is able to diagnose diseases related to the glands. The diseases she is trained to treat often affect other parts of the body beyond glands. While primary care providers know a lot about the human body, for diseases and conditions directly related to glands such as Menopause, Lack of growth, Osteoporosis, Thyroid, Cholesterol disorders, Hypertension, Infertility, Diabetes, cancers of the endocrine glands, Dr. Hooks may be able to provide direct care for theses issues.

The Endocrine system is the collection of glands that produce hormones that regulate metabolism, growth and development, tissue function, s*xual function, reproduction, sleep, and mood, among other things. The hormones affect metabolism, weight, cholesterol levels, muscle strength, brain development, breathing and functioning of the heart and nervous system.
