I was so proud to present Tripp Pate of Hamilton Attendance Center the award for Blood Drive Coordinator of the Year for my territory on Tuesday. Vitalant Tupelo holds a yearly luncheon to recognize and award our exceptional blood drive coordinators. The Coordinator of the Year award goes to the best of the best. Mr. Pate goes above and beyond to ensure every senior receives their Honor Cord and community service certificate. We know every student will not receive an academic accolade at Awards Day or Graduation but Mr. Pate is determined to make sure they all receive an Honor Cord. It has been an absolute pleasure working with him.

Swollen elbows led to a devastating diagnosis for 5th grader, Ben: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. What followed was a three-year journey of chemotherapy, seizures, feeding tubes and 28 blood transfusions.

Ben faced every challenge with courage, strength and a lot of humor -- he literally marked “CUT HERE” on his chest before surgery. His family, teachers, and nearly 200 volunteers rallied around Ben and his entire family, proving no one fights alone.

This past September, Ben beat cancer. His message to other kids:
