TIDBITS FOR TANNING
"Why Won't My Legs Tan?"
We get this question at least once or twice a week. While there are a few reasons why your legs take longer to tan than the rest of your body, a primary reason has to do with the melanin production in our legs. Since our legs do not produce as much melanin as other parts of our body, the tanning results on our legs are much slower. Melanin is responsible for the darkening color of our skin during the tanning process.
Other reasons include the thicker and drier skin on our legs (making it more difficult for the UV rays to pe*****te the skin), the amount of oxygen our legs receive (wearing restrictive clothing allows for less oxygen), and even our post-tan care.
Some dont's include, for example, over-exfoliating and shaving more than once a week, which lends itself to removing some of that tanned skin you have worked so hard to obtain!
There are lotions created specifically for the legs that contain ingredients to bring the melanin to the surface of the legs, inhibit hair growth, and keep your leg tan moisturized for maximum effectiveness.
Please don't hesitate to ask us at your next visit which lotion may be more effective in producing that same bronze tan on your legs that you've achieved on your upper body!
