I could only imagine how life would have been different if my loved ones had access to the great and dedicated services from a PACE organization like WelbeHealth.

A new center opened in Modesto, CA. I would recommend my company to any families who are looking for comfortable and engaging solutions for their aging loved ones.

Agghhh!

Normalizing nutrition misinformation is a huge problem for communities due to numerous opinions and advice from unreliable sources (next-door neighbors, weight-loss gurus, support groups, and even other medical professionals).

❗️Consider the following methods to combat misinformation in your community.

🍏: Talk to your primary doctor if the advice is appropriate for your health.

🍎: Question rather than fully accept if you are unsure about the information. It’s a good sign that you think critically about your health if you provide questions.

📕: Do not accept simplistic conclusions drawn or recommendations based on a single complex study.

🥘: Tag me on any nutrition-related post. I will give you my honest advice. I will let you know if I don’t know, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

🍉: Ignore gimmicks or empty promises from the weight loss programs. Sadly, weight loss companies state they are safe and science-based. However, your primary doctor or a Registered Dietitian should be the person to discuss long-term solutions for your health/weight status. This is a source of unbiased science-based research/advice.

⚠️: Please avoid lists of “good” and “bad” foods. Please talk to your family doctor or RDN to see the best options for your conditions!

Hi!….

👋: I have not formally introduced myself to my new friends and followers. My name is Roberto Couto. I AM a Geriatric Registered Dietitian for Sequoia PACE! 🙌

More facts below!
⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
✏️: Before attending AU, I attended and graduated from California State University, Fresno(2016), Modesto Junior College (2013), and Hilmar High School (2010).
💊: I initially went to Modesto Junior College to study as a pharmacist.
🍽: only I wouldn't say I like mustard, pickles, or black licorice. You will ruin my day if you force or trick me into eating one of these products.
👨🏾‍🦳: My 10-year high school reunion was canceled due to COVID-19.
😁: My only life fear is dying young and not experiencing life to the fullest.
👩‍❤️‍👨: I have been married to my best friend since 2021. I still have not told her yet, but she inspires my growth and is willing to make a name in the nutrition field!
😔: I did not get into a dietetic internship program until my third try in DICAS. I ultimately thought I was a failure for not being able to get into a single DI program even though I built a strong resume and obtained hundreds of volunteering hours. I thought about leaving the dietetic field to pursue another degree or study another medical profession. Luckily, my former DI director () individually messages me over email after responding to my FS didactic program director about my options.
ℹ️: I have three wishes to do and complete before I pass away. ☝️I want my friends, family, co-workers, and clients to remember me by heart and smile and my willingness to ignite change in the aging population.✌🏽I want to obtain my Ph.D. in nutrition and set an example for my students. 🖖🏽, I want to be able to make the perfect rice pudding and share my skills with my grandchildren.
🇵🇹: I was adopted into a Portuguese family on April 11, 1992.

👨🏽‍🦳Jose Carlos Sousa (1924-2008)

🥬: This remarkable man is one of the reasons why I got into the dietetics/nutrition field. I always remember showing me your garden where you grew your kale and cabbage for traditional kale soup for grandma Sousa. You always did things for your family with selflessness and gratitude. You shared those traits in every action for the Sousa family. Thank you for accepting me into the Sousa family and making me a part of this fantastic family.

🥬: You are the reason why I got into this field. You showed me the importance of health and nutrition through your garden. Every seed and plant you grew in your garden demonstrated every life you made a growing difference. Everything I do is because of you, Jose Sousa.

🥬: I wish I could go back and show you what I am doing today. I know I was a crazy kid when I was little but i know you would be proud of the dietitian I am and what I have in store for the RDN field.

👨‍🎓🧑‍🎓Today is a special day for all college graduates, especially dietetic students!

🍏Here is a picture of me and some former dietetic students from and another one with my graduate robe and good from . 6 years have passed, and I am still amazed by the journey I had to endure years after this picture.

💥I already learned that I was not accepted into a dietetic internship program. It would take me another year to gain the strength to apply for another round of dietetic internship programs and, again, not get accepted in those programs.

❤️I learned a lot about myself from denial, and I kept this saying close to my heart.

👨🏽‍💼“Great dietitians don’t always get accepted into their first or second rounds each year.”

🧑‍🎓To my “fresh” dietetic student graduates, today marks the next step of your Dietetic journey! You may be one step closer to becoming a registered dietitian. To my graduate who didn’t get into their DI choices, DO NOT stop building yourself up and move to the next opportunity to strengthen your resume!

Dear Mom,
♥️
♥️
♥️: I feel incredibly grateful to have you as my Mom. The things I remember most about you: you are always there for me no matter what the circumstances, no matter how bad my mood was, no matter what time of day or night. You are my rock and foundation. You continued to pick me when I did not believe in my ability to chase my overall goals. You guided me through my struggles and pain to find my overall purpose in this world. You have given everything for my well-being and set the path for my career! I cannot believe I am a lead registered dietitian for Welbehealth within my first year as an RDN. I am very grateful for the lessons and advice you provided throughout my twenty-nine years of life. You have sacrificed many precious moments in your life so that I could have them in mine. I remember spending almost whole nights with grandpa and grandma Sousa‘s home because you ensured dad did not lose his mind at the meat locker. You were always the one who supported the family through the downs and lows. Mom, when you asked me to pursue my dreams, little did you know that you were one of the only people who believed in my ability. I knew it was a little frustrating for you since you could not help me with my homework when I was in middle and high school. But I am thankful for you to help me with my patience to go through difficult times. Today, I am a registered dietitian who dreams of helping older adults’ nutritional status and educating them to see another birthday with their families. Because of you, I get to make a dream a reality. You are the reason for my success. Your sacrifice is not for granted. I am so proud to call you, my Mom. You are the best Mom ever, and like you, there cannot be any other. I will try my best to pay you back with love and kisses for all of the troubles I did when I was little. I promise!
❤️
❤️
❤️: You may not know this about me, but I did not think I would have done this without you by my side. You gave me a place to call home. You welcome me to a group of people who I call my family and friends. You got me involved in a culture I will continue to represent until my last breath. I am not finished with my educational and professional journey, and I want you and dad to know I am truly blessed and thankful for you both to give me a second chance with my wonderful life.
❤️
❤️
❤️: I love you, Mom, and thank you for everything!

Happy Saturday everyone!

Just sharing a very helpful video on recognizing the signs of a stroke! FAST is the acronym used in this video. FAST serves as a mnemonic to help detect and enhance responsiveness to the needs of a person having a stroke. The acronym stands for Facial drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulties, and Time to call emergency services.

The video shows an excellent example of FAST from the daughter and wife of the gentlemen. I am confident that sharing this video with your friends and family will help save lives!

Would you know when someone is having a stroke? Recognizing the signs and acting quickly could mean the difference between life and death, or between a full ...
