I don't think I've ever seen one of our residents so excited about the first day of school! Karen's back at it! She was out in front of her apartment bright and early to welcome the students of Turner Elementary back to their first day of school! We hope all the students have a great year!

We had a luau lunch yesterday in the Creekside Cafe for residents. So much good food, good fellowship, and a fun time was enjoyed by all! Tim's brother and sister-in-law came to help with the cooking, and Tim supplied the entertainment. Aloha!

The Turner Homes Board continues to look for ways to expand the mission of Turner Retirement Homes by making it more inclusive to bring younger generations into the community. We recently started a new program with Hope Pregnancy Clinic in Salem, Oregon, to provide safe and affordable housing to new mothers with children. The ninth reason to donate is because designated donations can go towards supporting this new ministry making housing affordable to a new mother and giving her solid footing in a supportive community to build her future. Our retired residents have embraced the mothers into the community by finding ways to encourage and support them along the way.

Giving a little or giving a lot doesn’t determine your heart size when it comes to the organizations you support. We know you can give what you can afford when you’re able to do so. We are thankful for EVERY donation we receive, big or small, it all goes to work together for our ministry, and every donation is received with gratitude. Those times you cannot give monetarily, we appreciate your support with prayers! If you would like to support us in prayer you can pray for our residents, staff, board, upcoming projects, and the expansion and direction of our ministry into the future.

Tomorrow is National Nonprofit Day! National Nonprofit Day recognizes the impact of nonprofit organizations that make an impact on local communities and across the globe. The fifth reason to donate is because you put your money into something that makes you feel good AND that helps others. A list of our current financial partners who have helped make a big difference in our little community in the last year is shown. We want to thank them for their dedication in supporting the mission that allows us to keep Turner Homes providing a caring community for all residents. Thank you!

The fourth reason to donate is because it helps us make updates to provide a nicer community for our residents. Last year we revamped the kitchen and dining room areas to make them more functional, lighter and brighter! This made for a nicer place for residents to come and enjoy meals with others. These updates also provided a more streamlined kitchen, replacing worn flooring throughout, updated appliances, adding functional lighting, a salad bar, and a steam table. It expanded to include casual seating areas where residents can just come in and enjoy time with family or friends when meals are not being served. It’s the main community gathering place for Resident Information Meetings, and families can use the space for family gatherings or celebrations when it’s not being used for community meals.

The third reason to donate is because you’re supporting a ministry that has been around for over 90 years! Turner Retirement Homes, Inc. has been operating in Oregon since 1933. Our first residents were Mr. & Mrs. Judson Brown, from 1933 to 1935. During the first 25 years, Turner Homes averaged about 20 to 30 residents a year. Over the years as Turner Homes expanded, our highest census was about 200 residents in the 1990’s. With the closure of the Residential Care Facility in 2022, our current census is 138 independent residents. From 1933 to date, we have had a total of 1097 residents that have resided here with us. Some even left and returned a second or third time because they enjoyed living in the Christian community. When you do donate, it helps us continue to provide a solid ground to welcome new residents who decide to call Turner Homes “HOME!”

The second reason to donate is because every donation you make gets put into the Turner Homes community in various ways. Today we will focus on the 113 homes plus various garage and storage buildings. When you think about it, all those homes and buildings need regular upkeep and repairs at some point. From simple repairs, like fixing leaky pipes, broken windows, new toilet seats, and carpet cleaning; to large projects, like heating and cooling units, roofs, appliance replacements, new flooring and paint, the costs can quickly add up. Donations from our financial supporters for these reasons are greatly appreciated.

For the next two weeks, we are highlighting National Nonprofit Day, celebrated on August 17th. As a nonprofit, we rely on our financial partners and their donations. We will share TEN ways that you can help support Turner Retirement Homes as a nonprofit. The first reason to donate is because your donations may go to help someone you know and care for. Some of our donations are set aside to help with the financial aid for our residents who might need assistance with their monthly reimbursement costs. Living on a fixed income and trying to make ends meet can make a difference in having an affordable place to live, or having no place to live. With your donations, Turner Homes can make financial assistance available to residents who need it.

As an employee at Turner Homes, spending your break time outdoors behind the office is a bonus! The blackberries are warm, sweet, delicious, and free for the picking! I wish I could reach the bunch in the tree over the creek. Why are the best ones always just out of reach? 😂🤣😂.

Tim took a selfie with some friends at the RIM (Residential Informational Meeting) on Wednesday. "Smile everybody!" RIMs are held every other month and provide our residents with current information to keep everyone up to date with what is happening within our community. (Do these photos remind anyone else of Kilroy? 😆)

Sarah, our Bookkeeper likes to walk around the campus on her breaks and while she's out she gathers flowers and brings them back to the office. We have been blessed with beautiful bouquets for the last month. Thanks, Sarah, for bringing the beauty indoors for all to enjoy!
