Halloween can be overwhelming for autistic individuals due to sensory overload (lights, sounds, costumes)
Use a personalized “What to Expect” guide (with photos) to prep ahead
Display an “autism-friendly” sign at your home to promote understanding
Choose comfortable, non-irritating costumes; try them on in advance
Explain trick-or-treating steps ahead of time & carry a nonverbal sign if needed
Walk in familiar or less crowded areas; go earlier before dark if helpful
Use glow sticks, light-up shoes, or identification to boost safety
Offer pre-packaged treats and maintain social distance when giving candy
Invite friends/neighbors who have autism to join — inclusion matters 💡
