Dr. Hooper's two largest ongoing studies are titled Project CHORES and Project ACTS. She is also planning to launch several new studies in the coming year. Descriptions of the studies, completed, ongoing, and planned, are listed below. -PROJECT ACTS (ongoing)- This long-term project is directed toward the understanding (describing), developing, and testing of culturally-tailored mental health treatments and services for racially and culturally diverse populations. -PROJECT CHORES (ongoing)- This long-term project is directed toward clarifying the strength of the relation between childhood roles and responsibilities and adult functioning (both wellness and psychopathology). -PHYSICIAN'S DECISIONS FOR THE DEPRESSED MEDICALLY ILL STUDY- (Georgetown University School of Medicine) (completed) This National Institute of Mental Health-funded completed study was directed toward the examination of physicians’ decisions for the depressed medically ill. (Research completed at the Georgetown University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and The University of Alabama). -PHYSICIAN'S TREATMENT CONVERSATIONS (planned)- This qualitative research project is directed toward understanding primary-care physicians differential mental health treatment conversations based on physician-patient race concordance. -FIT FAMILIES STUDIES (planned)- These series of long-term projects are directed toward examining the link between mental and physical health in the context of family systems. Specifically, we are investigating the extent to which there are health-related patterns evinced across multiple generations in culturally and racially diverse families.
