Allow me to offer you a perfect example of drive, a perfect example of shear guts.
Saturday night, Herb Jones of the Alabama Men's Basketball team started the game against South Carolina- that despite a cast remaining on his shooting hand weeks after he suffered a fractured wrist. Herb settle into the game as he all but played one-handed.
As Herb hustled up and down the court, Coach Oats and the fans liked what they saw. So Herb kept playing, and then he played some more. Herb in fact, would play every minute of the game, never coming off the court.
When the game was over and Bama had beaten South Carolina 90-86, Herb Jones had scored 10 points (including a vicious slam), pulled down 9 rebounds and even sank a few free throws one-handed with his off hand.
Herb Jones is a quiet, polite young man (of course he really opens up around his friends and teammates). On Saturday night, there was nothing reserved about the way he played. Herb showed drive, resiliency and heart in giving his teammates and fans everything he had.
As we go about our week and face life's challenges, we may want to think of Herb Jones of the Alabama basketball team. The thought may just motivate us to beat the odds and rise to the occasion.
