🗓️ Friday, October 24th

🕰️ 6pm - 8pm

📍 Painted Lotus Yoga & Wellness

🪷 Facilitated by Clarissa Boggess, Owner & Instructor

As the harvest season comes to a close, many traditions pause to honor and remember their ancestors and loved ones.

Join us for an evening of guided meditation, reflection, and creative ritual designed to help you connect with your ancestral lineage in a mindful, intentional way.

Together we’ll explore gentle seasonal practices, including:
Guided meditation and pathworking to connect with your ancestors (and other spiritual, cultural or social lineages)
Creating charm bags with crystals, stones, and plants to support ongoing connection in your home or sacred space
Suggestions for personal rituals, observances, and journaling prompts to deepen your seasonal reflections

✨ All materials for your charm bag are included in the workshop price ($45). You’re welcome to bring personal items — such as photos, keepsakes, or meaningful stones — to include in your charm bag or to hold close during meditation. You may also wish to bring a journal and pen for recording reflections.

This workshop will run about 90 minutes, with space for up to 2 hours to allow for reflection and sharing. Whether you’re new to sacred observances and meditation, a regular yoga practitioner, or simply curious about ancestral veneration through mindful practice, come spend an evening with us in sacred community.

🧘🏾This month, our entrance desk display honors the roots of our yoga lineages.

🪷Yoga flows through generations, carried from teacher to student, heart to heart.

🧘🏻‍♀️You are invited to write the name of a teacher, lineage, mantra, or inspiration that connects you to these roots on the slips of paper provided.

🪷Tuck your slip beneath the marigolds to honor the light of these teachings throughout October.

Qigong, pronounced “chee gung”, or “chee gong”, is an ancient Chinese body, mind, and spirit practice, valued for enhancing health and wellness for over 2500 years. “Qi/chi” translates as “life’s energy” and “gong” is form of physical practice. Qigong is a limb of Traditional Chinese Medicine based on the idea that nature, without human interference, is balanced and harmonious. Being part of nature, humans have the capacity for achieving mental, physical, and spiritual harmony and balance through practices like Qigong that generate and cultivate qi, or life’s energy. The practice of Qigong supports the management of energy levels, regulates health, and brings balance to life. The primary focus of Qigong is the balancing of yin and yang, or opposing forces and feelings. Supported by evidence-based research, Qigong is promoted by the World Health Organization for its myriad health benefits.

Class 1: Overview of Qigong, its philosophical foundation and the principles guiding movement. Practice will center around 18 Forms, which is thought to be the most common practice worldwide.

Class 2: Meridians, movement and alignment. Practice will center around the 8 Brocades and Aligning with the Natural World.

Class 3: The Five Elements and their basis for balancing opposing forces and feelings (yin and yang energy) through movement. Practice will center around Five Elements to Support Five Organs and Five Elements for Five Emotions.

ARE YOU GOOD AT YOGA?

How do you know when you’re “good” at yoga?

Yoga doesn’t have qualifiers, milestones, or performance goals.

So how do you know if you are any good at it?

Yoga exists as a method, a lifestyle, a body of knowledge designed to teach us to be profoundly human and effortlessly aware of our own divinity - cultivating the experience of both existing within the moment and as the moment itself.

Yoga reveals the depths of our energy, challenges our stories and recalibrates neural pathways. Yoga opens the body to possibility and expands the mind to what CAN BE.

No measure. No scale. No gradient. No pinnacle.
No better or worse - only WHAT IS

We create comparison with our judgement of the practice and from a desire to label

Stop.

There are a variety of ways to deepen and expand your practice however there is no such thing as being “good at yoga”.

Relax, in yoga the idea of talent doesn’t exist, but discipline and consistency does

So how do you determine the quality of your yoga practice? You either practice or you don’t.

Our Story

"Step lightly, embrace the flow, and remember to breathe." - Clarissa

ABOUT US: Painted Lotus Yoga and Wellness LLC strives to offer the highest caliber of classes and services provided by compassionate, highly trained, credentialed, and experienced instructors and body workers from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Through scientifically sound and spiritually grounded yoga practices and healing modalities, it is our intention to empower our students and clients to create transformation, vibrant health, and well-being in their lives. Painted Lotus Yoga and Wellness exists as the bridge between ancient and modern healing arts, enriching the lives of people across our diverse community.

OUR STORY: Prior to becoming a studio with a brick-and-mortar home, Painted Lotus Yoga and Wellness was the business name of Clarissa Boggess’s teaching and energy work practice in Tuscaloosa. For over a decade, Clarissa practiced as an independent contractor working with local schools and businesses as well as teaching at The Yoga Center. After 20+ years, Lynda Kees, founder of Tuscaloosa’s first Yoga studio, made the decision to dissolve The Yoga Center. Since Clarissa and Lynda have been friends and colleagues for well over a decade, it seemed the natural progression that as The Yoga Center came to a close, Painted Lotus Yoga and Wellness, LLC would evolve into its new brick and mortar incarnation as Tuscaloosa’s premier yoga studio. Honoring the history and legacy of our roots while continuing to grow as a healing arts center is a tremendous privilege and honor for Clarissa and all who teach and practice within this sacred community. We are deeply grateful and honored to continue to offer yoga to our vibrant community and for our growing family of yoga teachers in Tuscaloosa. We look forward to supporting you on your path to empowered transformation!
