The University of Alabama Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program

The University of Alabama Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program We are a 16/16/16 program at The University of Alabama that prepares physicians to improve and promote the health of others.

The University of Alabama Family Medicine Residency is one of the largest and most successful residencies in the southeast. We are the only residency at the 658-bed community hospital that is the referral hospital for West Alabama. We are a 16/16/16 unopposed program with a large, full-time faculty that is assisted by numerous local physician volunteers. We emphasize areas including rural medicine, obstetrics and sports medicine. The residency is operated by The University of Alabama's College of Community Health Sciences, which also functions as a regional campus of the University of Alabama School of Medicine.

Welcome Back Home, Dr. Madison Peoples & Dr. Andy Thomas!

We’re thrilled to welcome two outstanding graduates of the UA-Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program back to the College of Community Health Sciences—this time as faculty!

Dr. Madison Peoples and Dr. Andy Thomas have joined us as assistant professors in the Department of Family, Internal, and Rural Medicine. Both will also provide outpatient services at UMC (and accepting new patients WINK) and inpatient services at DCH.

Dr. Peoples earned her master’s degree from our CCHS Rural Medical Scholars Program and her medical degree from the UAB Heersink School of Medicine. Dr. Thomas also earned his medical degree from UAB and was recently honored with the STFM Faculty for Tomorrow Residency Scholarship.

We’re proud to see our residency alumni return to serve and teach the next generation of physicians!
