Black History Month Spotlight: Magic Johnson

Magic Johnson changed the world’s understanding of HIV when he publicly shared his diagnosis in 1991. At a time when fear and misinformation were widespread, his courage helped reduce stigma, humanize HIV, and spark national conversations about prevention, testing, and treatment. Through the Magic Johnson Foundation, he has continued to advocate for HIV education, healthcare access, and empowerment in Black and underserved communities.

At Five Horizons Health Services, we carry this legacy forward by providing HIV prevention, care, and treatment services rooted in dignity, education, and access. Like Magic Johnson, we believe knowledge saves lives, and everyone deserves the opportunity to live a healthy, full future.

Bishop Yvette Flunder is a trailblazing faith leader, HIV/AIDS advocate, and founder of the Fellowship of Affirming Ministries. For decades, she has challenged stigma at the intersection of faith, race, sexuality, and health, creating spaces of radical inclusion, compassion, and healing for people impacted by HIV.

At Five Horizons Health Services, we share Bishop Flunder’s belief that care must be rooted in compassion and respect. Our work centers on meeting people where they are, providing services, and ensuring access to life-saving information and care, because everyone deserves to be seen, supported, and valued.
