]🎉 Congratulations to Our Leading with Heart Winner – Anita Lopez, CNA! 🎉

Anita has been a dedicated CNA for over 10 years, with the past 5 years spent serving our residents at Cottage. She was nominated by one of our hospice partners, who praised her outstanding teamwork and consistently positive attitude.
Anita truly exemplifies the pillar “Two Hearts Beat as One.” Her collaborative spirit and seamless coordination with our hospice partners result in better, more compassionate care for our residents. Her willingness to step in, along with her uplifting presence, embody the core values of Genesis.

When asked about her work, Anita shared, “I love Cottage, my coworkers, and our residents. Being able to help those in need is what makes my job so special.”

✨ Sign Language Fun at Cottage of the Shoals! ✨

This week our residents had the incredible opportunity to take part in a sign language class taught by Kellie Belue from Remedy Behavioral Health. With the wonderful support of our very own Darian Robinson from Accounts Payable, the class was a huge success! 💙

The residents had an awesome time learning, laughing, and engaging in this meaningful activity. It was inspiring to see everyone participate and connect through sign language—building both skills and smiles. 👐💬

We’re so grateful to Kellie for sharing her knowledge and passion, and to Darian for helping make the event special for everyone.

💡 At Cottage of the Shoals, we’re always looking for ways to bring enriching, joyful experiences to our residents—and this was one for the books!

Heart Beat Winner – Sadie Harden

We are so proud to celebrate Sadie Harden as this week’s Leading with Heart and Heart Beat Winner! 🎉

Sadie has been part of our Cottage family for an amazing 10 years. Her heart shines through in everything she does—from helping our residents to supporting her fellow coworkers in nursing, dietary, housekeeping, and beyond.

Before joining the laundry department, Sadie worked as a nursing assistant, and that same caring spirit continues to touch everyone around her. She’s known for her kindness, her teamwork, and her joyful willingness to step in wherever she’s needed.

Sadie has received both the Heart of the Matter and Two Hearts Beat as One awards, showing just how much her love and dedication mean to our community. 🏆

When asked what she loves most about her work, Sadie shared:
✨ “Everything and everybody—working around my co-workers and residents.” ✨

🌟 Celebrating Our Heart Beat Winner: Clint Kirchner, COTA! 🌟

We are beyond thrilled to announce this week’s Leading With Heart – Heart Beat Winner: Clint Kirchner, COTA! 🎉

Clint has been serving as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant for 18 years—17 of those years right here with us at Cottage of the Shoals! His dedication, compassion, and positive energy have made a lasting impact on both our residents and our team. 💙

Clint’s warm presence and “Heart of Gold” shine through every day—whether he’s providing therapy, sharing a laugh, or simply making someone’s day brighter. His genuine care and empathy set such a powerful example for us all.

When he’s not at Cottage, Clint enjoys hiking, working out, and spending time with his family. 🏞️💪👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 He says the greatest joy of his work is the time spent with his coworkers and residents.

Thank you, Clint, for being such a vital part of our Cottage family and for truly Leading With Heart. We are so lucky to have you! 💙

Despite the rainy weather, our Cottage of the Shoals residents still found a way to stay active and have some fun! ☔🏐
Yesterday we took the game indoors and enjoyed a lively round of indoor volleyball. Lots of laughter, teamwork, and friendly competition filled the room.
We love seeing our residents stay engaged and make the most of every day — rain or shine!

🌟 The Road Home: Ms. Opal’s Story 🌟

We are thrilled to celebrate Ms. Opal Cummins’ incredible progress here at Cottage of the Shoals! 💙

After her hospital stay, Ms. Opal came to us needing support with strength, balance, and daily activities. With determination, hard work, and the support of our amazing therapy team, she achieved all of her rehabilitation goals. By discharge, she was walking 135 feet with a rolling walker and had regained her independence in daily living! 🙌

Her journey is proof that with the right care, encouragement, and perseverance, going home stronger is possible. 🏡✨

Join us in giving a warm Cottage of the Shoals welcome to Kathrine Elizabeth Kyle, our new LPN - Back West! Kathrine will be starting this August and comes to us with experience from a plasma center.

Originally from Muscle Shoals, AL, Katherine is a proud mom of two kids, and shares her home with two dogs, two cats, and her husband. In her free time, she enjoys sewing, painting, hiking, and spending quality time with her children. 🧵🎨🥾

Fun fact: Katherine LOVES frogs 🐸 and is most excited about getting to know our wonderful residents and staff!

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Peggy “Cindy” Mitchell, our new Skin Care and Wound Nurse here at Cottage of the Shoals! 🩺💙

Cindy comes to us with extensive experience in cardiac, hospice, oncology, kidney, and home health care, and she holds her ADN from NW-SCC. A Florence, AL native, she is a proud mom of four daughters and a stepson, and grandmother to six. Cindy loves spending time with her family, watching her grandchildren in all their activities, and enjoying football season. Fun fact—she even spent two years as a jail nurse!

Cindy is excited to get to know our residents and coworkers, and to provide the very best care possible. Welcome to the team, Cindy! 🌟

🎨👕 Tie-Dye & Treats! 🍦🍺

Our residents at Cottage of the Shoals had a blast getting creative with custom tie-dye shirts! Bright colors, big smiles, and even bigger fun filled the room. To top it all off, they cooled down with delicious root beer floats while showing off their artistic sides.

It's always a good day when creativity and sweet treats come together! 💙🌈

Cottage of the Shoals Leading with Heart Winner- Buddy Brewer- Driver

Buddy recently went above and beyond by bringing his personal smokers to the center and
treating both residents and staff to a delicious feast of smoked chicken wings and bologna. He
thoughtfully planned this event well in advance, building excitement throughout the center.
When the big day arrived, anticipation turned into delight as everyone enjoyed the flavorful
results of Buddy’s culinary talents.
But Buddy didn’t stop there. After the cookout, he personally delivered meals to residents who
weren’t able to attend the event in the dining room—demonstrating the true meaning of
compassion and care. His enthusiasm was contagious, and the quality of his smoked meats left a
lasting impression on everyone who tasted them.
In his role, Buddy transports our residents to appointments and also supports the activities
department during holidays and special events. He consistently lives out the Leading with Heart
pillar, Heart of the Matter, by putting residents first and enhancing their quality of life in every
way he can.
When asked what he loves most about his work, Buddy shared:
“Being a part of something that feels like family and not a job.”
