Leading with Heart – Heart Beat Winner
This week’s Leading with Heart, Heart Beat winner for Cottage of the Shoals is Melanie Lane, LPN, MDS Nurse.
Melanie was nominated because she is truly always at the heart of the matter. Her willingness to help anyone at any time demonstrates exactly what it means to lead with heart. Melanie received three nominations this week, with one nominator sharing:
“Melanie pours her heart into her work. She is always willing to pick up extra shifts and truly has a heart of gold.” Melanie has been a nurse for 33 years, with 31 years dedicated to long-term care, and has been a valued member of the Cottage family for the past three years. When asked what she enjoys most about working at Cottage of the Shoals, Melanie shared that she values working as a team, interacting with the residents, and the friendships she has built with her coworkers. Melanie consistently lets her actions speak louder than words through her teamwork, compassion, and dedication.

The residents at Cottage of the Shoals had a wonderful time enjoying Bingo with our Administrator, David Grimes. From special prizes to plenty of laughs, jokes, and lighthearted shenanigans, it was a fun-filled activity that brought smiles to everyone involved. Moments like these make our community so special.

Celebrating a Success at Cottage of the Shoals!

We are proud to share another great rehabilitation success story from Cottage of the Shoals!

Mrs. Alfano was admitted to our center following a recent hospital stay and began working with our Physical and Occupational Therapy teams to regain her strength and independence. At admission, she required assistance with daily activities and mobility. Through determination, hard work, and the support of our dedicated therapy team, she made incredible progress in a very short time.

After just one week of therapy, Mrs. Alfano was able to walk 250 feet independently and perform her transfers and activities of daily living with modified independence. Having met all of her therapy goals, she was safely discharged back home.

Congratulations to Mrs. Alfano on her outstanding progress, and thank you to our Cottage of the Shoals team for delivering compassionate, high-quality care that helps our residents return home stronger and more confident.

Our residents at Cottage of the Shoals enjoyed a beautiful Christmas party filled with delicious food, festive decorations, and plenty of holiday cheer. It was a joyful time spent celebrating together and creating special memories.
