🧘🏽 Did you know that the human body can only survive 3 minutes without air?
Without air the brain starves of oxygen, normal bodily functions cease to exist and essentially we die. That makes breathing extra high on the priority list in this life. Recently, there has been lots of scientific evidence that supports the use of breathing exercises for a variety of health concerns. Lets look at some of these evidence-based benefits.
First of all, breathing exercises can be used for therapeutic purposes, including relaxation. Changes to breathing affect the autonomic nervous system (ANS), which regulates functions such as our digestion &heart rate. Research has shown that deep breathing exercises can help by decreasing the stress response, and stimulating the release of certain hormones.
Breathing exercises have proven to help with:
-Stress
-Anxiety
-Sleep
-Asthma
-COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
-High Blood Pressure
Some common breathing exercises include:
-Diaphragmatic breathing
-Pursed lip breathing
-Slow paced breathing
-Yoga breathing exercises.
