Watch as Dr. Alexa shows you three simple tests to see if your hips are limited in range of motion, specifically in external rotation!
Ideally, there should be little to no space between your leg and the floor when performing these exercises.
Limited hip mobility can affect everything from your squat, lunge, or cross-legged sitting, to your pelvic alignment and even lower back comfort.
Comment below if this feels familiar, and we’ll create a follow-up video showing targeted exercises and stretches to help improve your hip mobility, release tension, and get your hips MOVING again!

If you saw our last post about the three p*e jars, you know that your bladder should move through first sensation → first urge → full capacity.
But when you’re always going “just in case,” you skip those stages, teaching your bladder to feel “urgent” way too early and adding extra stress to your pelvic floor over time.
Think you might be stuck in the JIC cycle? Comment below.
A little awareness (and a healthier bladder timeline!) goes a long way.

What if mast cells and histamine are the missing link behind your pelvic pain?
These are real, complex conditions... but sometimes, they don’t tell the whole story.
For many people, mast cell activation and histamine overload quietly fuel symptoms like:
- Symptoms that shift with your cycle or hormones
- Burning or pressure that flares unpredictably
- Pain or urgency after certain foods or stress
- Itching, flushing, or sensitivity around the pelvis
If your body feels reactive and unpredictable, mast cells might be the thread connecting it all.

Ever wondered what your bladder should feel like as it fills?
These three “p*e jars” explain why understanding your sensations matters... especially if you struggle with pelvic floor dysfunction.
First Sensation:
A light awareness that your bladder isn’t empty. Many people with pelvic floor tension never feel this stage, which can lead to going “just in case.”
First Urge:
A comfortable, manageable signal that you’ll need a bathroom soon. If you feel urgency way too early, this can be a sign of overactive bladder or pelvic floor overactivity.
Full Capacity:
A strong but controlled urge. This is when you should go. If you’re hitting this point too quickly, leaking, or feeling pain or pressure, the pelvic floor may not be coordinating well with the bladder.
Understanding these stages can help you recognize when bladder habits (and pelvic floor function) need a little support.

Mast cells are actually your friends... they help protect your body by releasing chemicals during healing and immune responses.
While they can be your friends, they may get a little too excited and release chemicals too often, leading to pain, sensitivity, and inflammation in the pelvic region.
As pelvic PTs, we recognize that the body’s immune, nervous, and musculoskeletal systems are all connected. That’s why we collaborate closely with your medical team to help calm the system, reduce flares, and support your overall wellness.💜

Dealing with stubborn hip pain or tightness that just won’t go away? This can feel like a literal pain in the butt!
Your pelvic floor might be part of the puzzle.
The pelvic floor (especially a muscle called the obturator internus) plays a huge role in hip mobility and pelvic alignment… so when it’s tight or overactive, your hips can definitely feel it.
Often times, this muscle becomes tight in your pelvic floor, and treating it can relieve pain around the side and back of the hip.
Before you do another round of clamshells or hip stretches, try looking a little deeper. Your pelvic floor could be the key to lasting relief!
If this sounds like you, give us a call at (714) 770-8222 to get an evaluation and start getting back to doing the things you love.💜

All kidding aside, sometimes connecting through Telehealth appointments can be beneficial and the only option for some patients who do not have access to care and are looking for answers for their pelvic floor!

Evidence, science, patient autonomy, restoring the patient/clinician relationship.
Acknowledging mistakes and remaining humble.
All of this and more during this mornings FDA press conference to finally remove the incorrect black box warning on estrogen products that prevented millions of women from benefitting from these life changing, life saving medications.
I’m so honored to know and and so many other colleagues who have worked tirelessly for many years to advocate for this moment in women’s health.
Let this be a reminder to stay curious and open-minded, to question group think and to never stop advocating for your health and well-being.

It wasn’t the antibiotics… It was her nervous system (and pelvic floor muscles) all along!
After multiple rounds of antibiotics, she was left feeling worse… burning, urgency, pain that no test could explain. The truth? Her body was stuck in protection mode.
When the nervous system is in overdrive, the pelvic floor can become hypertonic (tight, guarded, and sending false “infection-like” signals to the brain).
Once she focused on calming her nervous system and restoring safety in the body, her pain began to melt away.✨
If you’ve been told “everything looks normal” but you still feel like something’s wrong, you’re not crazy and you’re not alone. There is another way to heal.

Pelvic health is one of the last and often poorly understood frontiers for both men and women. Currently, many suffer in silence or search relentlessly for answers, only to become frustrated by a lack of true understanding and expertise in the medical community. Sarton Physical Therapy practitioners understand that pelvic pain, s*xual pain, pelvic organ prolapse or urinary leakage have the power to influence every aspect of one's existence—the ability to enjoy work, play, life, family and personal relationships. Many patients often wonder, "Am I the only one? What is wrong with me? Why is it so difficult to find help?" Fortunately, help is available to both men and women who do not need to suffer in isolation.
