Braveheart Raptor Rehabilitation Center

Braveheart Raptor Rehabilitation Center Braveheart Raptor Rehabilitation Center was named after a great horned owl. She was a very special bird and fostered many chicks. She truly was a brave heart.

Braveheart holds open houses every second Thursday and Sunday of the month from June to October. It is free and guests will learn all about our facility, our birds, and what we do. Guests will also get to see our permanent resident birds, and get to touch real artifacts. In addition to our free handouts about preserving the environment for raptors and other conservation information, we now have T-shirts, raptor bookmarks, and notecards with photos of our ambassador birds for sale. Our center's name and logo are embroidered on the T-shirts and they come in several colors. T-shirts can be ordered or purchased when you come to the Center.

Within the span of a week, we admitted three Merlins from throughout Northern Michigan after they collided with windows. Unfortunately, one of the Merlins died due to the severity of his injuries, but the other two are still in our care and showing improvement.

You can make a difference for these two Merlins, as well as for our other patients! Your generosity enables us to provide the critical care our patients need. Donate today at:

Today marks three months since this bald eagle came into our care.

This 22-year-old male arrived with lead poisoning, but he has come a long way since then. Be sure to stay tuned for updates about his recovery!

We are grateful to the staff at Brookside Veterinary Hospital for their help with him. Special thanks to Rebecca Lessard from Wings of Wonder for providing enclosure space and for assisting with his care.

The SRC staff wishes all of you a safe and happy Independence Day!

This Barred Owl fledgling was found huddled with an injured wing in a Grand Traverse county yard.

It’s alert and eating, but the injury on its wing is not responding to medication as we had hoped. Because the owl received a negative avian influenza result, x-rays and a veterinary consultation will tell us more.

You can make a difference. To minimize the risk of spreading avian influenza, we test all of our patients. Each test costs $60 and helps us keep our other patients and veterinary partners safe from possible exposure.

To help pay for a test, please visit: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=XAMYXC2SKCN5L

Thank you. We could not do this without the help of kind people like you.

This young American Kestrel was potentially exploring the world for the first time when she was injured by a passing car.

For just $20, you can supply her with a week’s worth of the medication that will help treat the swelling around her eye.

Did you know that only 34% of nonprofits send handwritten cards? We’re part of that group because we want you to know that your donation matters to us.

Thank you to SRC volunteer Martha for writing the latest batch of cards and to Rowan Ash Artistry, a woman-owned business, for creating them. They are recycled paper and feature a hand-carved stamp. The proceeds were used to plant a tree in our honor.

This young Barred Owl came to us from Charlevoix County after falling from its nest.

After being treated for foot injuries, it was returned to its parents via a nest box this past weekend. The parents began calling to the youngling as soon as James, our executive director, started to climb down the tree.
