How Dehydration Affects Your Spine 💧

We all know water is important for energy and skin—but your spinal discs depend on it too. In fact, they’re made up of 70–90% water and need proper hydration to do their job.

🧠 Why it matters:
Your discs act like cushions between your vertebrae. When you’re hydrated, they absorb shock and keep your spine moving well. When you’re not… they can’t.

⏳ What happens during the day:
As you sit, stand, and move, your discs slowly lose water from pressure. Overnight, they rehydrate (yep—you’re actually a little taller in the morning!). But if you’re not drinking enough or moving enough, they don’t fully bounce back.

⚠️ Signs your discs may be dehydrated:
• Stiffness (especially morning or after sitting)
• Dull, achy low back discomfort
• Feeling less flexible or “compressed”

Here’s the connection:

✔️ Proper breathing (diaphragmatic)
Your belly expands, ribs move outward, shoulders stay relaxed. This supports a healthy spine.

⚠️ Chest breathing (common with stress + desk life)
Shoulders lift, neck muscles overwork, and posture starts to shift forward.

Why?
👉 Your Achilles acts like a spring, handling up to 8x your body weight
👉 As we age, tendons naturally lose strength and flexibility
