July 25 is World Drowning Prevention Day. According to worldwide WHO estimates, every hour of every day, more than 30 people fatally drownβtotaling around 300,000 deaths globally each year. Drowning is among the ten leading causes of death for children and young people aged 1-24 years in every region of the world.
As the nationβs nonprofit association of beach lifeguards and open water rescuers, raising awareness of the importance of drowning prevention is at the core of our mission. We encourage you to practice our Top Ten Beach and Water Safety Tips when by the water:
