Restore Family Counseling will be hosting an exciting two-day couples workshop hosted by Kacy Combest, LPC. The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work Workshop is an in-person marriage workshop based on the internationally acclaimed research of Dr. John Gottman as presented in his New York Times bestselling book—The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. This educational workshop has been offered across the US and internationally, and has strengthened the relationships of tens of thousands of couples. It’s specifically designed to help couples improve their friendship and learn powerful communication and conflict management skills.

The workshop includes lectures, demonstrations, videos and private couples exercises. The activities are fun, insightful and informative. And there is no need to worry about sharing your personal problems in front of others… we don’t do any group sharing at this workshop.

We're glad to welcome Alec Capel to the Restore team! Alec is a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern currently completing his graduate training through Abilene Christian University, and he is supervised by Simone Reed, LMFT-S). He is a member of the National Marriage and Family Therapy Honor Society. Alec brings a unique blend of financial expertise and relational insight to his work with individuals, couples, and families. Prior to entering the counseling field, he spent over a decade as a financial advisor, helping people navigate some of life’s most stressful decisions. Now, he draws on that experience to support clients facing emotional, relational, and identity-related challenges with clarity and compassion.

Alec is particularly passionate about working with men and couples facing po*******hy addiction, financial conflict, and emotional disconnection. His focus is to help clients find clarity, build trust, and move forward with purpose.

When he’s not working with clients, Alec enjoys weight training, writing, and spending time outdoors—often in a tent. He believes lasting change often begins with small, intentional steps, and he considers it a privilege to walk alongside others as they take those steps.

While AI chatbots should not be used as a replacement for a licensed counselor, it can be used as a tool to support your mental health. AI does well to organize information and can be used to organize information throughout the day or create schedules.

For many clients, just having positive interactions and connecting with their counselor is therapeutic and healing, but that isn’t something you’re able to replicate with AI chatbots. Humans innately desire connection and community with others. Meeting face-to-face with your counselor also allows you to see real examples of different things such as breathing exercises or grounding techniques.
