We're glad to welcome Alec Capel to the Restore team! Alec is a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern currently completing his graduate training through Abilene Christian University, and he is supervised by Simone Reed, LMFT-S). He is a member of the National Marriage and Family Therapy Honor Society. Alec brings a unique blend of financial expertise and relational insight to his work with individuals, couples, and families. Prior to entering the counseling field, he spent over a decade as a financial advisor, helping people navigate some of life’s most stressful decisions. Now, he draws on that experience to support clients facing emotional, relational, and identity-related challenges with clarity and compassion.

Alec is particularly passionate about working with men and couples facing pornography addiction, financial conflict, and emotional disconnection. His focus is to help clients find clarity, build trust, and move forward with purpose.

When he’s not working with clients, Alec enjoys weight training, writing, and spending time outdoors—often in a tent. He believes lasting change often begins with small, intentional steps, and he considers it a privilege to walk alongside others as they take those steps.

Areas of Interest: pornography addiction, financial issues in relationships, men’s identity and shame, emotionally disconnected couples, life transitions

While AI chatbots should not be used as a replacement for a licensed counselor, it can be used as a tool to support your mental health. AI does well to organize information and can be used to organize information throughout the day or create schedules.

For many clients, just having positive interactions and connecting with their counselor is therapeutic and healing, but that isn’t something you’re able to replicate with AI chatbots. Humans innately desire connection and community with others. Meeting face-to-face with your counselor also allows you to see real examples of different things such as breathing exercises or grounding techniques.

The recent deadly flooding in central Texas has affected many in the area, either directly or indirectly. This can be especially difficult to navigate as a parent, whether you have small children or teenagers. To help, Restore will lead a free parenting group focused on equipping parents to navigate grief and the media with your kids.
This group will be led by Maggi Moore, LPC, RPT and Taylor Jefcoat-Ferriss, LPC, and will take place at RE/MAX Professional at 1698 W Grande Blvd, Tyler. This will be a free group, but please call 903-415-5757 or email staff@restorecounselingtyler.com to sign up.
