Smith County Clubhouse

Smith County Clubhouse Human Services What is Clubhouse? The Clubhouse model is an evidence-based, recovery-oriented program for adults living with serious mental illness.

It incorporates the 3 essential components of recovery: People, Place & Purpose (the 3 Ps). Clubhouses help Members work toward regaining their place in society. They offer Members opportunities for friendship, employment, housing, education, and other services in a caring and safe environment. They have Members and a few staff who work side by side as colleagues to choose the work they want to do, as well as the programs their Clubhouse will offer. There are no membership fees or time limits on Membership; once a member always a Member! Our Mission:

Smith County Clubhouse empowers adults with serious mental illness to shape their own recovery process, be part of real-world clubhouse work activities, develop friendships, and experience a better quality of life. Clubhouse Eligibility:

-18 or older
-Serious mental illness diagnosis
-Referral from Mental Health Provider
-Committed to recovery
-Respectful interactions with others

Today is a bittersweet goodbye to our interns.
Zayra Guzman (SFA) and Josh Grozier (UT Tyler) have been with us 5 months, and have enriched each one of our members lives for the better. Whether helping with skills or personal goals, or simply doing activities with members, we are so grateful for everything they added to our day-to-day.

We wish you both the best of luck and hope to see you again in the future!

If you're dropping by our Holiday Open House on Tuesday, December 16, then it's the perfect time to get rid of any coins you have that you may want to donate to Smith County Clubhouse.

If you’ve ever met Herwanea Sirles, you know this: she leads with her whole heart. As Executive Director, she’s spent the past few years redefining what it means to show up for a community—not from behind a desk, but right beside the people she serves.

From early-morning coffees to late-evening events, Herwanea is everywhere her members need her to be. She listens, she lifts others up, and she creates a space where every person feels safe, welcome, and genuinely valued. Her open-door policy isn’t a saying—it’s a daily practice.

Herwanea’s journey from generalist to executive leader reflects the very best of servant leadership: humility, service, and a passion for helping others rise.

Here’s to a leader who leads by doing, serves by empowering, and inspires all of us to show up for one another a little more boldly.

Today, we welcomed Dr. Takova Wallace-Gay to the Clubhouse for a medication workshop. She enlightened our members about their prescriptions and how they paired with each person's diagnosis.
It was incredibly educational and eye-opening as Dr. Wallace-Gay shared with us about her own family history and how proper usage of medications can make all the difference in our day-to-day health.

We are very grateful for her time and attention to detail, as well as the one-on-one time she spent with all our members, so they may be able to be empowered by how their medicines work and why it's important to take them.

Today, our members Jermaine, Amy, DJ and staff member Angie, spent the morning working on beautiful diamond art pieces. This calming, hands-on activity gives everyone a chance to express themselves while building focus, patience, and a little sparkle into the day.

We love seeing our members dive into creative projects that brighten both our clubhouse and their confidence. Great job, Jermaine, Amy, DJ, and Angie — your artwork is truly shining!

We had a truly special visit today at Smith County Clubhouse!

Mayor Don Warren of Tyler stopped by to spend time with our members and share his inspiring story. From his years of community service to his passion for helping Tyler grow and thrive, Mayor Warren reminded us how important it is to stay involved, stay hopeful, and stay connected.

Our members enjoyed asking questions, learning about the responsibilities of a mayor, and hearing firsthand how leadership and compassion go hand-in-hand. We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn from a local leader who genuinely cares about the people of Tyler.

Thank you, Mayor Warren, for taking the time to visit and making our day brighter!
