🌈 Sensory Sunday #5 — Visual Input (Lights, Colors & Visual Regulation) 💡

Sensory Spotlight:
Visual input includes light levels, colors, motion, and visual patterns. Some people love visually stimulating tools; others prefer low-visual environments. Both are completely valid sensory experiences.

Tools to feature:
• Liquid motion timers
• Soft, slow-moving visual lamps
• Color-changing sensory balls
• Visual schedules or simple first/then boards

As holiday lights and decorations become more common, offering choices and adjustments helps support comfort and regulation.

🎧 Sensory Sunday #4 — Auditory Input (Sound Sensitivity & Sound Seeking) 🔊

Sensory Spotlight:
Auditory needs vary greatly—some individuals benefit from reducing sound, while others enjoy sound-based play. Supporting autonomy means providing tools and options, and letting people choose what feels safe and comfortable.

Helpful tools:
• Noise-reducing headphones
• Calming sound machines
• Visual timers to reduce verbal overload
• Gentle sound-based fidgets (for those who enjoy auditory input)

During holiday season noise, offering sound supports can help individuals feel more comfortable and in control of their environment.

⚖️ Sensory Saturday #3 — Vestibular Input (Movement & Balance) 🌀

Sensory Spotlight:
Vestibular input comes from movement—rocking, swinging, spinning, jumping, balancing, and more. For some, it feels calming; for others, energizing. Each person’s sensory profile is unique, and all responses are valid.

Supportive tools:
• Swings (hammock, indoor, or doorway styles)
• Wobble cushions or balance boards
• Mini trampolines
• Rockers or movement-based seating options

These can be wonderful ways to support self-regulation during a season that can bring unpredictability and sensory intensity.

🖐️ Sensory Sunday #2 — Tactile Input (Touch & Textures) ✨

Sensory Spotlight:
Tactile input includes all kinds of textures and sensations. Some people enjoy exploring different textures, while others prefer to avoid or limit them — both are equally valid. Sensory preferences are highly individual and deserve respect.

Fidgets & tools to feature:
• Sensory putty or therapy dough
• Textured tangles
• Pop tubes
• Soft plushies or calming fabric textures

Offering choices empowers individuals to engage only with what feels comfortable and regulating for them.

🟦 Sensory Saturday #1 — Proprioceptive Input (Deep Pressure & Heavy Work) 🏋️

Sensory Spotlight:
Proprioceptive input can feel regulating, grounding, or organizing for many autistic individuals — and each person experiences it differently. There is no “right” way to seek or use sensory input; our goal is simply to offer supportive options and honor each person’s unique needs.

Tools you might highlight:
• Weighted lap pads (when chosen by the individual)
• Compression clothing/body socks
• Resistance bands for pushing and pulling
• Soft squeeze or resistance fidgets

These can be helpful gift ideas for those who enjoy deep pressure or grounding sensations—always used by choice, never as a requirement.

Day 7 — Thanksgiving Day Gratitude

Today, on Thanksgiving, let’s take a moment to celebrate gratitude in all the different ways people express it.

For some, it’s words.
For others, it’s gestures, connection, presence, or quiet comfort.

Let’s also be thankful for neurodiversity—the many ways people communicate, process, and experience the world.

When we approach this holiday with understanding, flexibility, and acceptance, everyone has the chance to feel included, supported, and valued.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate, and warm wishes for a peaceful, gentle day to those who don’t. 🧡

11/27/2025

🍂 This Thanksgiving season, we’re reflecting on how truly grateful we are for each child, family, and community partner who allows us to be part of their journey. Thank you for trusting us to support, empower, and celebrate your children each day! It is an honor we never take for granted.

Even in the busiest moments, there is always beauty to be found. We hope you’re able to pause from the cooking and chaos to soak in the little moments, embrace the hugs, and enjoy the memories being made.

As a reminder, all Galliant Autism Care clinics will be closed Thursday, November 27th and Friday, November 28th so our team can spend time with their loved ones. We’ll reopen on Monday, refreshed and ready to serve you!

Day 6 — Respecting Boundaries

Thanksgiving often brings hugs, greetings, and social expectations—but not everyone is comfortable with physical touch or long conversations.

Respecting boundaries is an act of love.

If an autistic person prefers a wave instead of a hug, or quiet instead of small talk, honor that need.

Connection should always feel safe, not forced.
