St. Michael’s Hospital Avera is honored to announce St. Michael’s Hospital Wound Care is a recipient of RestorixHealth’s highest achievement, the Wound Center of Excellence Award. Recipients of this prestigious award meet or exceed national wound care quality benchmarks over a set period of time.

The Wound Center of Excellence Award recognizes wound centers that have demonstrated exceptional success by meeting or exceeding clinical, operational and patient satisfaction benchmarks.

Last week, some of the St. Michael's employees participated in a golf outing event hosted by the hospital nursing team! Thank you to the hospital nursing staff for planning a great event! Fun was had by all that joined!😊

We’re excited to recognize Tessa Folkers as the very first recipients of our Good Catch Award for patient safety at St. Michael's Hospital Avera!

The Good Catch Program is part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing a culture of safety. The Good Catch award will be given to employees that identify a near-miss situation where potential hazard or error is identified and stopped before it can cause harm to an individual.

Tessa was selected as the recipient of the award because she identified a medication error before administering the medication to the patient. Great job, Tessa!

Independence Day or Fourth of July?
Congress originally called the holiday "Fourth of July," not Independence Day. That name stuck even though the U.S. actually voted for independence on July 2, 1776. We celebrate on the 4th because that's when the Declaration was ratified. No matter what you call it, take a moment to honor those who gave their life or put their life on the line to protect our freedom. Happy Independence Day!

In response to newly confirmed cases of measles in South Dakota, the Department of Health is expanding access to the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine through a series of public vaccination clinics across the state.
