It’s and we are grateful to for letting us share part of her story ⬇️
“🚨July is Fibroid Awareness Month 🚨
Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous tumors that develop within or on the walls of the uterus. They can be as small as a seed or as large as a watermelon and can occur alone or in clusters. Some women experience no symptoms at all, while others encounter a range of symptoms that may cause pain, discomfort, inconvenience, and difficulty achieving or maintaining a pregnancy.
In November 2022, my OBGYN was like, “Hey, your uterus is the size of a 3-month pregnancy.” 👀 And I was like, “Pardon me??” Ultimately, I was diagnosed with a large uterine fibroid. I’m exaggerating only slightly when I tell you that the doctor was like, “Hey, you have a fibroid. Good luck.”
I tried working with fibroid specialists in RI and MA, but six months after my diagnosis, I had no more information than I did when I was diagnosed. I had no sense of what my options were or which was best for me. I was frustrated and scared. I didn’t feel seen or heard. And this is an unfortunate reality for many women who seek fibroid treatment.
I learned that I had to be my own best advocate and that I had to be persistent until I received the care that I needed.
As my fibroid journey continues, I want to let anyone experiencing fibroids know that you’re not alone. And I want to encourage any women who are looking for treatment to keep going until you receive the best care.”
