Ok patients and people from Underwood Family Practice I am going to try and explain the process of everyone that got their first Moderna COVID vaccine from us. You all we're given a date and time for your second vaccine. It is very very important that you keep your date and time to receive your second dose of Moderna vaccine! Pottowattamie P***c Health Department, has been excellent in supplying us vaccines for your needs. But now we at Underwood Family Practice are having issues with people cancelling for their second vaccine. What you need to know each vial has 10 doses and must be given in 6 hours! We have tried very hard to meet your needs. But when you cancel you are hurting the other people on that day to get their vaccine because we can not waste vaccine. Any persons that got Moderna on February 23 and knows 3 people that need their second shot March 23rd please call us at 712-566-9148 as soon as possible so we can fill in the 3 slots open for March 23rd. When you cancel you are not just hurting yourself but hurting other people that are signed up for vaccine. Please share this post and call us if there are 3 people that need their second Moderna vaccine on March 23rd 2021! Thank you Jackie & Rick.

So I think this is something everyone needs to refresh on. Just because you tested negative one day, you could be positive the next. It’s all about being prudent and responsible in your actions. Protect yourself and those around you and follow the guidelines published to keep everyone safe.

Other notes for our Underwood patients. I have no COVID -19 test thank you medical supplier and government! You need to go to test Iowa.com and sign up to be tested if you been exposed or think you have the virus, then let me know results so I can put in your chart. Also if you think you have the flu you will need to check with the ER to make sure they can also test you for the rapid COVID. The systems can be they same! The treatments are very different! Please share information! Thanks!

Some comparisons in today’s upcoming fall and winter illnesses

The cold, flu & COVID-19

The common cold, Influenza (Flu) and COVID-19 are all contagious respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. COVID-19 is caused by infection with a new coronavirus (called SARS-CoV-2) and flu is caused by infection with influenza viruses. Because some of the symptoms of flu and COVID-19 are similar, it may be hard to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone; testing may be needed to help confirm a diagnosis. The Flu,COVID-19 and the common cold all share many characteristics, but there are some key differences between them.

Difference between the flu & the common cold?
In general, the flu is worse than the common cold, and symptoms are more common and intense. It can be difficult (or even impossible) to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone. Special tests are needed, usually within the first few days of illness to determine if a person has the flu.

What are some similarities & differences between the flu & COVID-19?
Both COVID-19 and a flu can have varying degrees of signs and symptoms, ranging from no symptoms (asymptomatic) to severe symptoms.
Common symptoms of COVID-19 and flu include:
Fever or feeling feverish/chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue (tiredness)
Sore throat Runny or stuffy nose
Muscle pain or body aches
Headache
Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults
Other signs and symptoms of COVID-19 may include change in or loss of taste or smell.
What can I take to alleviate my symptoms?
Since there is no cure for the flu, a cold, or COVID-19, it is important to check with your healthcare provider to receive a proper diagnosis & for appropriate treatment advice.
In general, plenty of rest and drinking lots of fluids are key.
Additionally, since antibiotics don't treat a cold, the flu or COVID-19, and although treating your symptoms with over-the-counter medications (OTC) may give you some relief, you should check with your doctor first.
For example, if you have the flu, pain relievers such as aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen may reduce your fever and the aches.
OTC decongestants containing pseudoephedrine can help dry and clear nasal passages, but usually only temporarily.

Just for info, tonight we learned by doing that the Walgreens drug store that used to be open 24 hours located at Frank St and Broadway has terminated that 24 hour service. The Walgreens at 28th and Broadway is now the 24 hour store.
We hope all are healthy, following CDC guidance, and protecting each other to get this health threat passed us so things can be some what normalized again. If we all work together we can do this. Stay protected and safe.

So a lot of Corona Virus information going around. But we would like to have some focus on some around the house things while the family is staying at home.
As millions of children are home from school due to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), parents are suddenly faced with the challenge of finding alternative daycare options or finding ways to keep children occupied at home. This is creating many challenges for both parents and new caregivers. Keeping kids busy during the day is easier for older children than for younger children under the age of 5, but that doesn't mean teenagers aren't also at risk. Since most unintentional poisonings occur in the home, now is the time for parents to ensure that this new environment is safe. The best way to protect your children from poisons is to do a walk-through of your home and find where you keep all potential poisons.

Poisons in the Kitchen:
Keep all household cleaners stored up and away of children and/or stored in a locked cabinet with a safety latch.
Examples of household cleaners include:
All-purpose cleaners
Bleach
Dishwashing detergent (liquid, powdered, or single-use packets or tablets)
Drain openers and toilet bowl cleaners
Furniture polish
Laundry detergent (liquid, powdered, or single-use packets or tablets)
Spring cleaning has taken on a new urgency this year as people are intensely washing, dusting, and disinfecting homes and offices.
Don't mix cleaning products together to create a stronger effect. Certain combinations could create harmful reactions.
Leave products in their original, labeled containers. Do not transfer cleaning products into a food or beverage container (such as an empty water bottle); someone may swallow it by mistake.
Poisons in the bathroom:
Store all medications out of reached and in a locked cabinet.
Personal hygiene products such as hand sanitizers, nail polish removers, perfume, mouthwash and aftershave may contain alcohol which can be harmful if ingested.
Toothpaste usually contains fluoride and swallowing it can cause upset stomach and other gastrointestinal conditions. In larger amounts, fluoride can lead to more serious conditions.
Poisons in other rooms:
Many houseplants may be harmful. Call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 for a list of potentially poisonous plants. You may want to do without houseplants for a while or, at the very least, keep all houseplants out of reach of children.
Make sure battery covers are secure on remote controls, key fobs, musical books, and greeting cards. Store devices that contain small button-cell batteries out of reach and sight of children. Button batteries can cause severe injury or death if ingested.
In children, alcohol containing beverages can cause low blood sugar, which can lead to seizures and coma.
Ni****ne in ci******es, ci**rs, chewing to***co, and ni****ne gum & patches can cause severe heart and central nervous system problems. Additionally, liquid ni****ne solutions used in e-ci******es can be particularly poisonous if a child ingests it or if it comes in contact with the skin.
Above all, follow all the guidelines and recommendations that are being put out so we can get past this. Stay healthy.
